To repair the damage done by Starmer, Burnham needed to do three things: 1. End the abuse of proscription legislation as an authoritarian crackdown 2. End anti-refugee hostility 3. Recognise Israel’s genocide of Gaza He has failed all three before he’s even in office.

@Seoirse_ When she describes herself as 'queer' does she mean odd? She comes across as vacant, slow and well...just odd not to mention nasty.

I think if, in the week after Jo Cox's death, the BBC had invited an activist on to say that Jo was bad for believing in immigration and that Brexit supporters were the real victims, that activist would have been shamed into hiding if not emigrating. This is grotesque
Patrick Christys@PatrickChristys

A ‘queer environmental activist’ describes Ann Widdecombe apparently being bludgeoned to death in her own home as ‘quite a sad way to go out’, launches into a statement about what a bad person she thought Ann was and says many people won’t grieve for her.

@AaronBastani Seriously what do we think is the main appeal of Sadiq Khan? Is it his record on crime? No. His record on transport? No. Has he improved the lives of Londoners? No. Can he be trusted? No. What is it then about Sadiq Khan that people living in London find attractive?

@chrischree Respect for a 78 year old woman who has just been bludgeoned to death in a politically motivated brutal murder is just something decent people have. Left wing identity activists on the other hand are not decent people. This woman's behaviour was vile, nasty and despicable.

Daze was completely in the right here. Yes someone was killed, but that does negate or erase all the awful things she said about minorities in her career and how she actively campaigned against them and incited hate. It's fine to not grieve or have empathy for someone like that.

Daze Aghaji, ex Big Brother Housemate, was invited on Politics Live today. When asked to reflect on the life of Ann Widdecombe, Daze was told she is being disrespectful for being honest in her views on Ann’s legacy.

@Dan4Barnet When did you even mention devolution Dan when you were McSweeney and Starmer's man? This is straight out of the 'career politician' playbook.

Great day yesterday in Darlington meeting Mayors to discuss our work together over the last year. And the plans we're working on for a fiscal devolution roadmap to be published later this year.
Tracy Brabin WY 🌹@TracyBrabin

Great to meet with the CX & fellow mayors today to discuss fiscal devo This will give mayors the tools they need to power growth in their regions📈 Whilst there is still lots to be done, fiscal devo will give us the chance to reshape our approach to tax & regional investment🏗️

@CharlieWalsham_ @DazeAghaji This is so BBC. Their fixation with identity politics and 'diversity' emboldens them to platform nasty weirdo's with disgusting opinions. They think it's ok.

The fact the BBC invites someone like @DazeAghaji onto a supposedly serious political show demonstrates the editorial malaise afflicting the corporation. She describes herself as “queer”, a term used by only a tiny proportion of people (0.03% of over 16s according to the 2021 Census for England and Wales) and one that is still deemed offensive by some in the LGB community. Rather than giving her seat to someone more representative of licence fee payers, the BBC allows her to launch a far-left diatribe against an elderly politician who was allegedly murdered in her own home. How does this demonstrate due impartiality?

@MrTCHarris Zero class yes and I would wager an IQ in single figures. Why does the BBC invite morons like her on in the first place? They will say 'diversity' and obsession for them which appears to include giving air time to vile left wing cretins and weirdo's.

Get it into your thick skulls: objecting to gay marriage and abortion does not of itself make you a bad person. It makes you have different opinions from some other people, which is still allowed.

@skulthorp Yes, he's right up there with the biggest tossers in the UK. He owns a football club (Forest Green Rovers) where only vegan food is served. If you ever go there like I did, take a steak and kidney pie and make sure to eat it in front of the Directors Box.

Runs a wellness retreat (clothing optional) in Thailand frequented by wealthy divorcees and gay men. Keeps telling the same anecdote about the rave at Shoreham Power Station in 1993. Snaps at guests for "traipsing sand all over the pool area." Bullies the local staff

Wow. #PoliticsLive discusses Ann Widdecombe’s murder case & chose to feature @DazeAghaji smearing her. The killer still hasn't been prosecuted, yet the BBC gives airtime to attacks on the victim. Utterly shameful. This fat jabba the hut looking cretin needs deporting.

@Dan4Barnet Utter drivel from career politician Dan Tomlinson, now changing horses midstream to miraculously dump his heroes Starmer and McSweeney (who elevated him to a position in government he has no qualifications for) and suddenly becoming a devolution supporting Burnhamite Hypocrite!

I would add that the hot takes on devolution should also engage much more seriously with economic incentives: with how regional & local government have almost no fiscal incentive whatsoever to grow, and whether changing that might be an important pro-growth reform for a government to make. Business rates were nationalised by Thatcher in the late 1980s, ending the link between "the rates" and local service provision. Even where there are local gains from higher business rates, these are wiped periodically. Council tax revenues will increase if an area has more homes, but the funding formula is the main determinant of their financial position. Funding for Mayors is based on grants that don't reflect local economic performance. Might it just be that Britain's growth challenges are downstream of a lack of investment (in e.g. infrastructure and housing) and that giving some public sector actors a fiscal incentive to grow their economies via approving, prioritising, and sometimes funding this investment in their part of the country might help? The easy headline to write is that devolution will "fail". But I think that if this next administration builds on the reforms this government has started - be that on the visitor levy, fiscal devolution, or business rates localisation - then it could prove the headline writers wrong.
Tom Forth@thomasforth

In 1998 and 1999, four of Britain's regions and nations voted for devolution. Since then, all have overperformed the rest of the country economically. Even Wales. . Also a bit of a rant about how London isn't the only big city in Britain. tomforth.co.uk/agglomerationb…

Nope! You've misunderstood, London retains a very low share of its revenue right now. It could retain more and other places could do. I think you are confusing London having the autonomy to retain and spend more of its own money, with the current situation which is central government spending money in London.

It is astonishing that minister in the Treasury — however junior — does not understand the basic fact that if London retains more of its tax revenue that means less money for the rest of Britain. Of course he’s a PPEr who worked for the Resolution Foundation.
Dan Tomlinson MP@Dan4Barnet

Erm. No. It is entirely possible, in fact totally desirable, for London to retain more of the tax revenue it generates & for more investment to happen elsewhere in the country. These two things are complementary not conflicting.
