yo @A_dmg04 i promise i won't be mad but for how long did people know this was coming? i understand the commercial reasons for having to be quiet, but i genuinely would be curious to know how early it was communicated internally

I’ll say it bluntly: Today’s Destiny announcement was a result of long-term failures of leadership & a massive blow to the entire industry as a whole. Marathon as an extraction shooter doesn’t look sustainable long-term & I hate that Destiny was deprioritized for it. The extraction genre is too niche & complex as it’s designed, now saturated by prior title releases, breaks Bungie’s long-standing player outreach, & is declining in relevancy rapidly. The PvE modes could bring a much larger population of players to the game, but skeleton-crewing the Destiny IP to prioritize Marathon is a genuinely awful business decision. Marathon itself is fun for sure, but plays off the best systems & foundations of what the Destiny franchise created. Without Destiny, Marathon wouldn’t exist in its current form. Destiny’s biggest fault wasn’t the game when it was actually incredible to play; it was the removal of amazing content, absence of innovation, remaining safe instead of taking risks on new ideas, & limitations from leadership prioritizing profit over player. The coming days are going to be tumultuous for everyone, devs & players alike. Treat each other with kindness. I will be closely watching the Bungie careers page after everything simmers down & hoping, praying to see a hint of stability for projects to come. Hopefully, Bungie as an entity remains & I will absolutely step into a leadership role if they’ll have me to reshape Bungie into the powerhouse it deserves to be.
