Hey all! I have a request: I'm working on a story about rural behavioral health care access. Interested in interviewing folks about their experience seeking mental health care in rural WA, ID and OR. If this applies to you, I'd love to talk! DM or email rachel.sun@wsu.edu.

Since graduating in 2004, Dan Rasmussen has made a meaningful impact in broadcast news including his current role as an assistant news director at KABC TV Los Angeles.  Rasmussen reflects on his time at Murrow: "My experience at Murrow truly laid the foundation for my career in broadcast news. In the classroom, I earned a double emphasis in Broadcast News and Production. Amazing professors including Marvin Marcelo and Glenn Johnson provided professional-level feedback in hands-on settings, which prepared me and countless other grads for the real world that awaited us. Beyond the classroom, I gained valuable reps by immersing myself in countless opportunities working at Cable 8. It was incredible working with other highly-motivated students and dedicated advisors to create and launch live programs, experiment with new technology, try every job in a news operation, and even travel out of state. I wouldn't be the journalist I am today without my Murrow experience!" @djrasmussen @cable8 #MurrowProud #MurrowCollege #WSU

Murrow faculty members Drs. Stacey Hust and Jessica Willoughby secured National Institute of Health (@NIH) funding to refine and test the effectiveness of a technology-based intervention aimed to reduce college students cannabis misuse. @StaceyHust & @J_Willoughby will explore how educational programs can inform young people about cannabis use and its consequences, particularly in states where cannabis is legal. #MurrowProud #MurrowCollege #WSU news.wsu.edu/news/2024/10/1…

Today, the Rural Reporting Plunge is taking place across the Palouse and surrounding areas! Ten groups have ventured into nearby communities to explore rural towns. Their mission: to gather leads and potentially report on a story from each community. What an incredible opportunity for students to hone their reporting skills, meet new people, and discover new places! Kudos to these brave students! #MurrowProud #MurrowCollege #WSU

Backpack Journalism is a competitive international reporting program funded by generous alumni and donors. Four high-achieving Murrow college students travel to a foreign country to report a story with guidance from a faculty member. In the past, backpack journalism trips have sent students to destinations such as Nepal, Greece, the Galapagos Islands, Guatemala, Costa Rica, China, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Serbia, and others. Students equipped with the latest video, audio, and web technology produce multimedia content suitable for media outlets to publish. Backpack Journalism students experience the challenges and benefits of international travel, and they may have their work published by professional media, enriching their academic and professional lives. Travel typically occurs during spring break each year. The destination for the 2025 Backpack Journalism trip has not been finalized, but it is guaranteed to be impactful. Are you a current Murrow student and would like to experience this trip? Please submit your application by midnight on October 9th! The application can be found on Murrow’s website, murrow.wsu.edu/student-work/e… Where can Murrow take you?
