@lola_viscera 100% agree. open source will be the only true way, but im also gratefu to my partners in the tool-space that dont treat filmmakers like children. some of the biggest subscription services promote 'film as art' also have the most aggresive and soul-crushing levels of censorship...

The thing that pisses me off most about censorship is how it pretends to protect while actually enforcing a narrow, sanitized worldview that flattens anything raw, uncomfortable, or boundary-pushing. It doesn’t just cut out the extremes—it quietly trains creators to self-censor first. You start second-guessing every grotesque texture, every unsettling body horror beat, every “ugly/beautiful” detail that makes the work alive, because some algorithm or policy might flag it as “violent,” “disturbing,” or “not advertiser-friendly.” For someone like me who lives in sci-fi horror VFX and AI art, that’s death by a thousand cuts. My whole aesthetic is wet emergence, degloved fascia, visceral rupture, uncanny realism. That’s not shock for shock’s sake—it’s how I explore transformation, the body as meat and memory, beauty in the grotesque. Censorship (platform, demonetization, sudden channel terminations) turns that into a negotiation with invisible gatekeepers who change the rules monthly. It doesn’t eliminate harm; it just protects the boring and the safe. The most freeing thing since discovering these tools? Unmediated vision. I can go from a fucked-up mental image—some creature hatching with physics that actually holds, membranes tearing realistically, fur matting under fluid, a little happy-accident mouth the model decided to add—to output in hours instead of months and budgets I don’t have. No committees, no “can we make the blood less red,” no waiting for render farms or physical effects teams. Partners like Adobe, Magnific, Kling, Runway, Topaz, Artcraft etc., actually trust the vision instead of kneecapping it. That shift from “how do I technically make this possible?” to “what should this feel like?” is pure oxygen. AI didn’t just give me new brushes—it removed the middlemen who used to decide what kind of ugly/beautiful was allowed to exist. I’m endlessly grateful my partners get that. They don’t ask me to sand off the edges. They let me build the weird, wet, alive shit that feels true. That’s the real creative freedom: when the tools finally catch up to the imagination instead of the other way around.
