If the prize for winning the Owen Hart Cup is a guaranteed AEW World Title match, but the champion is already handing out title shots to anyone who asks, why should anyone bother with the tournament? Why take the hard route and win multiple matches just to get a title shot three months from now when you can just ask Darby for one today? That logic gap is a big reason why this tournament doesn’t feel as important as it should. That's why the world title shouldn't have an open challenge concept.

Getting a title shot by just asking Darby and winning the title early or going through different guys in a tournament to get a shot that YOU CAN SIMPLY GET BY ASKING DARBY?
