B'Tselem welcomes  Smadar Ben-Natan as the new Chair of the organization's Board. Smadar assumes this role at a time when human rights in Israel/Palestine are facing one of the gravest crises in recent history. After serving on B'Tselem's Board for the past 11 years, she brings with her extensive experience as a human rights lawyer, scholar, and activist, along with a deep commitment to the struggle for freedom, equality, and justice. Upon taking on the role, Ben-Natan wrote: "I assume this role with a deep recognition of the vital importance of B'Tselem's work - now more than ever. Even in the darkness we have reached, there is an opportunity to speak to those who were not willing to listen before. We remain committed to working toward a future in which everyone living between the river and the sea can live in freedom, equality, security, and dignity." משבר המזון ברצועת עזה מחריף עם סגירת חלק מהמטבחים הקהילתיים של ארגון המטבח המרכזי העולמי. המטבחים, שהפעיל הארגון לצד יוזמות קהילתיות מקומיות, הפכו במהלך הג׳נוסייד המתמשך למקור המזון הקבוע היחיד של מאות אלפי תושבים בעזה.  כיום נותרו ברצועה שלושה מטבחים בלבד, שמספקים ביחד בכל יום 200 אלף ארוחות חמות. זאת לעומת יותר ממיליון וחצי ארוחות שחולקו מידי יום עד עכשיו. מאז אוקטובר 2023 ישראל מגבילה את הכנסת המזון לרצועה, ובמקביל מחריבה את התשתיות המקומיות לייצור ולהפצת מזון. כך נוצר מחסור חמור, ומאות אלפי בני אדם נדחקו לתלות כמעט מוחלטת בסיוע הומניטרי. על פי משרד הבריאות הפלסטיני, עד אוקטובר 2025 מתו מרעב ומתת-תזונה 455 בני אדם, בהם 151 ילדים. עבור משפחות רבות, המטבחים הקהילתיים היו במשך חודשים הדרך היחידה להשיג ארוחה אחת ביום. אבל כעת גם רשת הביטחון המצומצמת הזו הולכת ומתפוררת. במרץ 2025 הטילה ישראל מצור מוחלט על הרצועה במשך יותר מחודשיים ומנעה הכנסת סיוע הומניטרי. בהמשך הטילה ישראל מגבלות נוספות על פעילותם של ארגוני הסיוע, ועשרות מהם הזהירו כי לא יוכלו להמשיך לפעול. כתוצאה, במאי 2026החל המטבח המרכזי העולמי לצמצם את פעילותו. משבר הרעב המתמשך בעזה הוא תוצאה של מדיניות ישראלית מכוונת. סיוע הומניטרי, שמותנה ברצונה או באינטרסים המשתנים של ישראל, אינו יכול להחליף מערכת ייצור והפצת מזון מתפקדת. כל עוד ישראל ממשיכה להגביל את הכנסת המזון, לפגוע בתשתיות ולהקשות על פעילות ארגוני הסיוע, מיליוני בני אדם ימשיכו לחיות במציאות של רעב, מחסור ותלות. למידע המלא >> btselem.org/hebrew/video/2…

The food crisis in the Gaza Strip is worsening, with the World Central Kitchen shutting down some of its community kitchens. Throughout the ongoing genocide, these kitchens, along with local initiatives, became the only reliable source of food for hundreds of thousands of people. Now only three WCK kitchens remain, together serving about 200,000 hot meals a day – down from more than 1.5 million until recently. Since October 2023, Israel has restricted the entry of food into Gaza while systematically destroying the local infrastructure needed to produce and distribute it. The result has been severe shortages, forcing hundreds of thousands of people into near-total dependence on humanitarian aid. According to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, by October 2025, 455 people, including 151 children, had died from starvation and malnutrition. For many families, these community kitchens were the only way to secure a single meal a day. Now, even that fragile lifeline is disappearing. In March 2025, Israel imposed a total siege on Gaza for more than two months, blocking the entry of humanitarian aid. It later imposed additional restrictions on the work of humanitarian organizations, prompting dozens of aid agencies to warn that they would be unable to continue operating. As a result, in May 2026, the World Central Kitchen began scaling back its operations. The ongoing hunger crisis in Gaza is the result of deliberate Israeli policy. Humanitarian aid, dependent on Israel's changing decisions and interests, cannot replace a functioning system for producing and distributing food. As long as Israel continues to restrict the entry of food, destroy essential infrastructure, and obstruct humanitarian organizations, millions of people will remain trapped in a reality of hunger, deprivation, and dependence. הסרט "ראג׳עין" (עוד נשוב) בהפקה משותפת של בצלם ו-NowHere Media התקבל למסגרת Venice Immersive של פסטיבל הסרטים הבינלאומי היוקרתי בוונציה. היוצרים פאיז אבו רמילה וקרן מנור יצרו את הסרט בשיתוף פעולה עם ג'אבר עלי דוואבשה, ג'מאל חרייזאת, עליא מליחאת ובני משפחותיהם. הסרט שצולם בטכנולוגיית מציאות מדומה (VR) במצלמות 360°, עוקב אחר קהילות רועים פלסטיניות בגדה המערבית המגורשות משטחן על ידי ישראל כחלק מהפרויקט שלה למחיקת הקיוםהקולקטיבי הפלסטיני בגדה .. הסרט מפגיש את הצופים פנים אל פנים עם פשע שמתחולל ממש עכשיו לנגד עינינו. לא מדובר ביוזמות של קיצונים או בכשל, אלא במדיניות סדורה ומערכתית שגורמי החוקוהאכיפה, הצבא ומיליציות המתנחלים מוציאים לפועל ביחד. מאז אוקטובר 2023, אלימות מתנחלים ופשיטות צבאיות הביאו לעקירתם בכפייה של לפחות 4,635 פלסטינים בגדה המערבית. נכון ל-15 ביולי 2026, 62 קהילות פלסטיניות שלמות נעקרו בכפייה משטחן, לצד 15קהילות נוספות שנעקרו באופן חלקי.

B'Tselem's new 360° VR documentary, Raj’in (‘We Shall Return’), which follows Palestinian shepherding communities facing forced displacement in the occupied West Bank by Israel, has been selected for Venice Immersive at the 83rd Venice International Film Festival. Raj’in (‘We Shall Return’) brings audiences face to face with an ongoing catastrophe: Israel is driving Palestinian communities from their land and homes as part of its project to eliminate Palestinian life in the West Bank. The world must recognize this as ethnic cleansing - and act to stop it. Since October 2023, settler violence and military raids have forcibly displaced at least 4,635 Palestinians in the West Bank. So far, 62 Palestinian communities have been entirely forcibly displaced, with another 15 communities partially displaced. בין אלפי הפלסטינים שישראל מחזיקה במחנות העינויים שלה, מוחזק כבר יותר מ־550 ימים גם ד"ר חוסאם אבו ספיה, רופא ילדים ומנהל בית החולים כמאל עדוואן שבצפון רצועת עזה. עורך דינו שביקר אותו בשבוע שעבר, התריע כי להתרשמותו נשקפת סכנה ממשית ומיידית לחייו של ד"ר אבו ספיה. ארגון רופאים לזכויות אדם מסר כי ד״ר אבו-ספיה, המוחזק בתנאי בידוד באגף רקפת, הנמצא כולו מתחת לאדמה, הגיע לפגישה עם עורך דינו כשעל גופו סימני אלימות טריים וקשים, עד שקשה היה לזהותו. הוא התקשה לשבת ולנשום, נראה כמי שעומד לאבד את הכרתו, ואמר כי הוא חושש שזה יהיה המפגש האחרון ביניהם לפני שיהרגו אותו. הצבא הישראלי עצר את ד"ר אבו ספיה בדצמבר 2024, לאחר שזמן רב סירב להתפנות מבית החולים והתעקש להישאר לצד מטופליו והצוות הרפואי תחת המצור וההפצצות הישראליות. מאז הוא מוחזק במעצר ללא כתב אישום ומבלי לדעת מתי הוא צפוי להשתחרר. בחודש שעבר דחה בג"ץ את ערעורו על המשך מעצרו, מבלי לפרסם את נימוקיו להחלטה שעלולה לעלות בחייו. ההתעללות והסכנה לחייו של ד"ר אבו ספיה אינם מקרה בודד. ישראל מחזיקה במתקני הכליאה שלה אלפי פלסטינים מרצועת עזה, ביניהם 13 רופאים נוספים, מהגדה המערבית ואזרחי ישראל. מעשרות עדויות שנגבו על ידי בצלם מפלסטינים שהוחזקו במתקנים אלה, וממידע רב שפורסם על ידי ארגוני זכויות אדם פלסטינים, ישראליים ובינלאומיים, עולה כי מאז אוקטובר 2023 הפכו מתקני הכליאה הישראליים לרשת של מחנות עינויים עבור פלסטינים. האסירים המוחזקים במתקנים אלה חשופים להתעללות פיזית ונפשית מתמשכת, הרעבה שיטתית, מניעת שינה, שלילת טיפול רפואי, השפלות ואף תקיפות מיניות. על פי מעקב בצלם, לפחות 90 פלסטינים כבר מתו במתקני הכליאה הללו מאז אוקטובר 2023 כתוצאה מהתנאים שבהם הוחזקו. העינויים והיחס הבלתי אנושי אינם חריגות או מעשים של יחידים, אלא מימוש מדיניותו המוצהרת והמופגנת של השר בן גביר, הממונה על שירות בתי הסוהר. מדיניות זו לא הייתה יכולה להיות מיושמת ללא הגיבוי המוענק לה מצד מערכת המשפט הישראלית, המודעת היטב לנעשה מאחורי חומות בתי הכלא, וללא התמיכה הציבורית לה היא זוכה. גם הקהילה הבינלאומית בוחרת להפנות את מבטה הצידה, ומעניקה לישראל חסינות מפני מתן דין וחשבון על הפשעים שהיא מבצעת כלפי הפלסטינים. במקום זאת, עליה לדרוש את הפסקת העינויים, ההרג והפרת זכויות האדם שמבצעת ישראל - במחנות הכליאה, ובכל השטחים שתחת שליטתה. קראו על מחנות העינויים של ישראל בדו"חות בצלם "ברוכים הבאים לגיהנום" ו"גיהינום עלי אדמות". btselem.org/hebrew/publica… btselem.org/hebrew/publica…

One of the thousands of Palestinians that Israel is holding in its torture camps is Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, a pediatrician and the director of Kamal Adwan Hospital in the northern Gaza Strip. Dr. Abu Safiya has been in prison for more than 550 days. His lawyer, who visited him last week, warned that he believes Dr. Abu Safiya’s life is in imminent danger. Physicians for Human Rights-Israel reported that Dr. Abu Safiya, who is in solitary confinement in the underground Rakefet facility, met them bearing fresh signs of violence so severe that he was barely recognizable. He struggled to sit, had difficulty breathing and appeared on the verge of passing out. Dr. Abu Safiya told his lawyer he feared this would be their last meeting before he was killed. The Israeli military arrested Dr. Abu Safiya in December 2024, after he refused for a long time to leave the hospital and insisted on staying with his patients and medical team under Israeli siege and bombardment. He has been in Israeli custody ever since, without charges or a release date. Last month, the Israeli High Court of Justice rejected an appeal he filed against the extension of his detention, without releasing its reasons for a decision that may cost him his life. Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya is not alone. Israel is holding thousands of Palestinians from the Gaza Strip in its incarceration facilities, including 13 other physicians, as well as Palestinians from the West Bank and Palestinian citizens of Israel. Testimonies given to B’Tselem by survivors of these facilities, together with extensive information published by Palestinian, Israeli and international human rights organizations, show that since October 2023 Israel’s incarceration facilities have become a network of torture camps for Palestinians. Inmates in these facilities are subjected to ongoing physical and psychological abuse, systematic starvation, sleep deprivation, denial of medical care, humiliation and sexual assault. According to B’Tselem’s monitoring, at least 90 Palestinians have died in these incarceration facilities since October 2023, as a result of the conditions. The torture and inhuman treatment suffered by Palestinian prisoners are not aberrations or the actions of a few individuals. They are the implementation of the brutal policies Itamar Ben Gvir, the minister in charge of the prison system, shamelessly espouses, policies that could not be applied without support from Israel’s judicial system, which is fully cognizant of what’s happening behind prison walls, or the Israeli public. The international community also chooses to look the other way, granting Israel immunity from accountability for the crimes it commits against Palestinians. Instead, it must demand that Israel end the torture, killing and human rights violations it perpetrates in its incarceration camps and throughout the territories under its control. "Genocide isn't just about Israelis and Palestinians. It's about the whole world – about humanity, and how we’re erasing humanity." The victims of the genocide in Gaza are Palestinians, and the perpetrators are Israelis. But genocide is a universal human phenomenon. As such, the responsibility to recognize, understand and oppose it lies with all of us. At the same time, while genocide shares common core aspects, every instance has unique characteristics. "There was a soldier who pulled the trigger and killed Mohammad. But there is also a system that protects those responsible, conceals reality and almost never holds anyone accountable." These are the words of Aliyah Abdel Majid al-Halaq, writing in @guardian about the killing of her 9-year-old son, Mohammad, by Israeli soldiers. " I still cannot understand why that soldier opened fire, or whether there was any reason at all, or whether, in his eyes, being a Palestinian child was reason enough. ״ Aliyah’s family is one of 54 Palestinian families whose children were killed by Israeli forces in the West Bank in 2025 alone. From October 2023 to July 5, 2026, Israel killed 1,088 Palestinians in the West Bank, including 242 children and teenagers. Watch footage of an Israeli police officer throwing a stun grenade into a Palestinian vehicle in Qalandiya camp Last night (Sunday), Israeli forces raided Qalandiya Refugee Camp near Ramallah. During the raid, a Border Police officer was filmed abusing a Palestinian driver and throwing a stun grenade into his vehiclewhile blocking the door and preventing him and the passengers from escaping. In the same raid camp, Israeli forces shot and killed 16-year-old Walid Abu Sneineh and injured three other Palestinians. The widespread and unprecedented killing of Palestinian children and teenagers in the West Bank is the result of an Israeli policy, which allows the killing and violent abuse of Palestinians with no accountability.
