עם טמפרטורות שטיפסו השבוע כבר ל-34 מעלות, תושבי רצועת עזה ניצבים חסרי אונים מול חום קיצוני ללא כל גישה סדירה למים. במהלך שנתיים וחצי של מתקפה ג'נוסיידלית, הצבא הישראלי הרס באופן שיטתי מעל ל-84% מתשתיות המים והסניטציה ברצועה, והביא לקריסה מוחלטת של מערכות החיים הבסיסיות. גם כיום, שבעה חודשים לאחר כניסתו לתוקף של הסכם "הפסקת האש", ישראל ממשיכה לחסום הכנסת ציוד חיוני לשיקום. הצבא מונע הכנסת מערכות סינון, מכלים וחומרי בנייה הדרושים לתפעול המערכות, ובכך מונע כל אפשרותלשיקום מערכות הבריאות והמים עבור מיליוני בני אדם. במחנות העקורים המציאות היא בלתי נסבלת. משפחות נאלצות לחיות לצד מי ביוב זורמים וערימות פסולת המצטברות בין האוהלים. בשל המחסור החמור עקורים נאלצים להשתמש במים מזוהמים ובלתי-ראויים לשתייה באופן שוטף. רבים מעידים כי הם נאלצים לוותר על רחצה או בישול כדי לשמור את המים הנקיים המעטים רק לשתייה. השילוב הקטלני של חום, זיהום והעדר תנאי היגיינה בסיסיים מוביל להתפשטות מחלות עור ומעיים קשות. מקורות המים המעטים מזדהמים מהר יותר בטמפרטורות גבוהות, מה שגורם להתייבשות ושלשול חריף, במיוחד בקרב ילדים. מומחים מעריכים כי הפגיעה המשולבת בתשתיות הובילה לאלפי מקרי מוות עקיפים כבר בשנה הראשונה למתקפה. באמצעות המשך חסימת הסיוע ההומניטרי והרס מכוון של תשתיות הקיום, ישראל מנציחה בעזה תנאים שאינם ראויים למגורי אדם. הג'נוסייד ברצועת עזה נמשך.

With temperatures already reaching 34°C this week, residents of the Gaza Strip are facing extreme heat with no regular access to water. Over two and a half years of genocidal assault, the Israeli military has systematically destroyed more than 84% of the Strip’s water and sanitation infrastructure, leading to the total collapse of basic living systems. Even now, seven months after the “ceasefire” agreement came into effect, Israel continues to block the entry of essential equipment needed for reconstruction. The military is preventing the entry of filtration systems, tanks and construction materials required to operate these systems, thereby preventing any possibility of restoring healthcare and water systems for millions of people. In the displacement camps, the reality is unbearable. Families are forced to live alongside flowing sewage and piles of garbage accumulating between the tents. Due to the severe shortage, displaced people are routinely forced to use contaminated, undrinkable water. Many report having to forgo bathing or cooking to save the little clean water they have for drinking. The deadly combination of heat, pollution and lack of basic hygiene conditions is leading to the spread of severe skin and intestinal diseases. The few remaining water sources become contaminated more quickly in high temperatures, causing dehydration and acute diarrhea, especially among children. Experts estimate that the combined damage to infrastructure led to thousands of indirect deaths already in the first year of the assault. By continuing to block humanitarian aid and deliberately destroy life-sustaining infrastructure, Israel is perpetuating conditions in Gaza that are unfit for human habitation. Israel operates a network of torture camps for Palestinians. Our reports, Welcome to Hell and Living Hell, exposed a reality of severe violence, starvation and torture inside detention facilities. The testimony of Muhammad Khader, a father of five who was arrested at a school in Jabalya and held at the Sde Teiman detention facility, is a shocking reminder of Israel’s methods. Sleep deprivation, systematic starvation and denial of medical treatment are part of a deliberate practice implemented in all detention facilities where Palestinians are held. Some detainees suffer sexual assaults. At least 88 Palestinians have died in these facilities since October 2023 as a result of inhuman conditions and severe violence. These practices have the full support of Israel’s political leadership, which takes pride in violating Palestinian prisoners’ rights and the dire detention conditions they are subjected to. Despite mounting evidence of war crimes and crimes against humanity, the international community continues to stand by and allow Israel to run torture camps with impunity. Now, in a major @nytimes investigation, journalist @NickKristof published terrible testimonies concerning sexual violence and the use of sodomy as a tool of interrogation and humiliation by Israeli forces. Palestinian prisoners are subjected to severe violence, deliberate humiliation, starvation, sleep deprivation, denial of medical care, and abuse in every facility where they are held. These abusive practices are fully backed by the political leadership, which openly boasts about the harsh prison conditions. Some inmates are subjected to severe sexual assaults. At least 88 Palestinians have died in Israeli detention facilities since October 2023 as a result of inhumane conditions, violence, starvation, and the denial of medical treatment. Despite the extensive evidence, media investigations, and reports issued by Israeli and international organizations documenting torture in Israeli prisons, the international community continues to stand by and allow Israel to commit crimes against the Palestinian people. What should Israelis do in the face of the genocide that Israel is perpetrating in Gaza? Does the Israeli public have a special responsibility? Yuli Novak, B’Tselem’s executive director, calls on the public in Israel and around the world to take a stand and do everything to stop Israel’s crimes. As of May, 9,384 Palestinians are currently detained and undergoing abuse. More than 80 have already died in Israeli custody, as these facilities function as a network of torture camps.

“There are a lot of 'limping monuments' in Palestinian villages, of those who tried to, so there is a price being paid... I'm constantly turning villages into conflict zones”. This is what Maj. Gen. Avi Bluth, commander of the military forces in the West Bank, says in Haaretz, published on 3 May (Sunday). The senior officer goes on to say: “The Arabs understand that ‘If someone comes to kill you, kill them first’ is the norm in the Middle East, so we're killing like we haven't killed since 1967,” explaining Israel’s open fire policy in the West Bank. Bluth brags about the extensive killing in the West Bank: “We've killed 1,500 terrorists in three years… 96 percent of the 1,500 killed were involved in terrorism, only 4 percent were not.” From October 2023 through 22 April 2026, Israel killed 1,066 Palestinians in the West Bank, including 231 children. The vast majority were killed by military fire, with 32 killed by settler militias. Using the label “terrorists” to make it permissible to kill Palestinians reflects the worldview of many senior Israeli officials regarding Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank. For example, in early 2025, Defense Minister Katz said that, if necessary, Israel would do in the West Bank what it did in Gaza. In November 2023, Bezalel Smotrich, Israel’s Minister of Finance and Additional Minister in the Ministry of Defense responsible for the Settlement Directorate, said "There are two million Nazis in the West Bank," later adding that "Funduq, Nablus, and Jenin must look like Jabalya." With Palestinians fully dehumanized in Israel, and in Bluth’s command, the military is deepening its oppression of Palestinians and pursuing a policy of ethnic cleansing in the West Bank. מיד לאחר כיבוש מזרח ירושלים ב-1967, סיפחה ישראל כ-70,000 דונם מהגדה המערבית בניגוד לחוק הבינלאומי. חלק משמעותי משטחים אלו סופח לשטח המוניציפאלי של ירושלים. התושבים הפלסטינים בסילוואן סובלים מהזנחה מכוונת של העירייה: זבל נערם, כבישים אינם סלולים ותאורת הרחוב דלה. לצד ההזנחה, התושבים מתמודדים עם אלימות יומיומית מצד כוחות משטרה ומתנחלים, שנועדה להפוך את חייהם לסיוט מתמשך. הטיהור האתני בסילוואן הוא פרויקט מדינתי מתוכנן שמקודם במשך שנים. הממשלה, רשויות התכנון, מערכת המשפט ועמותות המתנחלים פועלות יחד כמנגנון אחד כדי לנשל את הפלסטינים מאדמתם. החוק הישראלי מושתת על עקרון מארגן של קידום והנצחת עליונות יהודית במרחב: הוא מאפשר רק ליהודים לתבוע בעלות על נכסים במזרח העיר מלפני 1948, בעוד שאפשרות זו נשללת לחלוטין מהפלסטינים. ישראל משתמשת ב"גנים לאומיים" וב"אתרים ארכיאולוגיים" כעילה להשתלטות על קרקעות. אתרים אלו מנוהלים בשיתוף פעולה הדוק עם עמותות ימין כמו "אלע"ד" ו"עטרת כהנים", שכל מטרתן היא ייהוד המרחב. הקמת מובלעות יהודיות בלב הקהילה הפלסטינית, כמו בשייח' ג'ראח, ברובע המוסלמי בעיר העתיקה ובסילוואן, היא אסטרטגיה של דחיקה שנועדה לרסק את הרצף הקהילתי הפלסטיני. בעוד הפלסטינים סובלים מהזנחה ואלימות, המתנחלים בסילוואן, כמו ב"עיר דוד" או "בטן אל-הווא", נהנים משירותים ותשתיות חדישים, שבילי גישה סלולים ותאורת רחוב נאותה. הגירוש בסילוואן הוא חלק ממדיניות של טיהור אתני בכל הגדה המערבית. למידע המלא >> btselem.org/hebrew/jerusal…
