I’ve read the Hallett Inquiry into Covid now. It relies almost totally on evidence from the experts who got us into trouble in the first place and on the dodgy modelling. It’s one of the worst examples of groupthink I’ve seen. As I tweeted on here at the start of the pandemic (check it out) having studied every pandemic from the Black Death to Saturday Night Fever, we had to: - Isolate the sick and those caring for them. - Screen the vulnerable. - Practise social hygiene. - Carry on. That would have saved us £410 billion. That’s why you need multidisciplinary teams of experts, including historians, not just the nodding, now knighted and rewarded, heads.

Covid mostly killed only those who were already seriously ill. That group should have been screened and isolated, but the rest of us should have been allowed to carry on as normal and to choose whether to be tested or not. I suspect the true figure for the massive increase in suicides and other mental health issues among young single people (mainly men) will never be known. Social isolation most impacted that group. We are seeing a big jump in disability claims among young people. I suspect that history will show that the damage caused by the restrictions was greater than that caused by the virus itself.
