@Siennafrst @RegalRhetoric I thought I wouldn’t like it as feel usually 1st sounds very young adulty but it actually turned out ok and I’m quite proud of my effort 😊

@bubbleguzz @RegalRhetoric I’ve written one 1st person and I llked it, but I left it unfinished bc eventually I lost interest and I still think I can do better in 3rd. I actually feel this about every book I read too, “It was good, would love it eveb more in 3rd!”🤣

Going through samples looking for a new book to read. Having dumped 5 by the first few pages, I looked back and compared my yes and no pile and realized something: When writing skills are on par and passes my bar, the “no” pile contains books with only descriptions and dialogues. I’m being shown only what movies show me, and I quickly lose interest nvm how pretty the prose or how promising the plot. These books would write something like, “she looked at the [object] +[physical description of its ugliness] and made a sour face.” The “yes” pile contains books that offer me descriptions, dialogues, and MC’s Inner thoughts/opinions as they move through events. These books would write, “She looked at the celery and made a mental note to ask God why he thought it’d be a good idea to create this hideous thing the next time she goes to church.” This brings the MC to life for me. The more I see their thought process, the more intrigued and invested I am. Whatever it’s called, I noticed that a lot, if not more bestsellers are written the former way, which means it’s not wrong but this makes my reading life difficult bc I need more than descriptions and dialogues to read a book. Anyone has the same preference? Who else needs GGK’s style to get into books and who’s your favorite writer who writes this way?

@Siennafrst @RegalRhetoric I used to hate first person, always wrote in third however I wrote my debut sci-fi novel in 1st specifically to get the inferiority of the character. I actually quite enjoyed it. It’s still fast-paced and with (I hope) a cinematic feel 😳

@RegalRhetoric I don’t read 1st person either. But I do require 3rd person to show that thought process or whatever it’s called. As for cinematic feel, that should also be in there when it adds to the intensity but I don’t see why we can’t have both.
