Kind of surprised protobuf is not used much outside of google-sphere. I love how it lets/makes you turn everything into a data problem instead of api problem.

Moving to Anthropic's Buffa + connectrpc has been really smooth. I think more teams will end up shipping proto-first applications simple because they can draft contracts against canonical proto files. github.com/anthropics/buf…

@javarevisited I always said, pick the tech that is the best solution for the problem, not because it’s cool or the latest tech. So that’s my answer. That being said, I really like gRPC despite the higher deployment costs.

If gRPC had been based on WebSocket instead of full-duplex HTTP, it would have vastly broader support on the web today. We wouldn't need gRPC-web, we could just speak gRPC in browsers. We wouldn't need special support for gRPC in proxies since they all support WebSocket already.
