@ONAccessibility Self-assessment tools can help identify barriers and establish a more proactive approach to inclusive service delivery. Engaging a qualified accessibility professional can also help organizations move beyond compliance toward meaningful, user-focused accessibility outcomes.

@EchoNav34902 We focus on the overall experience of the user, not so much one particular element. However, if we had to choose one to prioritize, vehicular access and entrances are usually the first barrier a user experiences. Now, if we could only help with the attitudinal barriers.

@builtadvisors Completely agree — consistency is the part people often underestimate. A feature only helps if it’s predictable every single time. Curious what you’d prioritize first in public buildings: entrances, stairs, or elevator wayfinding?

@EchoNav34902 Tactile wayfinding and consistent audio cues are essential components of meaningful access within the built environment. The features you mention support independent navigation, dignity, and user autonomy for people with vision loss and other disabilities.

@builtadvisors Tactile wayfinding and reliable audio cues. Things like consistent elevator/floor announcements, detectable stairs, and entrance-to-desk guidance help people navigate independently instead of having to ask for help every time.

Proud to welcome Associate Minister Vijay Thanigasalam to Newmarket today as we unveiled the sign for the future CMHA York Region Mental Health & Community Care Centre. Last year, our government invested $1.1 million to support planning for this first-of-its-kind 24/7 mental health centre in Ontario — and today’s unveiling marks another big step forward. Opening in 2027, this centre will bring together hospitals, primary care, community providers, paramedics, police, and people with lived experience to make sure people get the support they need, when they need it. A huge thank-you to CMHA, Frances, and all our partners for their leadership. This is a major milestone for Newmarket–Aurora.

We are very grateful for the 665 people who took the time to complete our quarterly survey to help us illustrate the issues surrounding the state of disability poverty in Canada. 97% of those who completed the survey are living with a disability and often more than one. /1
