bolin lavabending has zilch to do with him having a firebending mom. all other lavabenders were not mixed, and everyone with mixed heritage have never had hybridized bending. republic city is at its core a multicultural hub with its roots being FN/EK, this doesn’t happen

@saccharinish without a beta i like to use the text to speech option on my phone/laptop too. hearing it spoken really highlights funky pacing and typos. when i think it’s done i set it in ao3, save as draft and then listen as i read one last time. always 10 more things to fix 😅

my unsolicited advice for my fellow fanfic writers is that if u feel like u always have to go back to re-edit ur fics hours or days after u posted them, u should start editing ur works as ao3 drafts. the change of layout and font will make the small details stand out more!

Toph failed multiple times at metalbending before she actually succeeded at making a dent. Bolin's ass just raised his hand and stopped the lava with no effort or difficulty like child's play. They are not the same.

Opening a chakra doesn’t necessarily mean one can bend its subskill, there are innate personality traits incompatible with each. I don’t think Mako or other kids are inherently prodigies for learning one (like the lavabending child in the comics), they just had the right mindset.
