It’s so unusual in the best kind of way to watch a team win the Stanley Cup and then watch the players stick around to watch assistant coaches, training staff, PR guy, etc hoist The Cup. The appreciation for the full body operation is so uniquely hockey.

We just witnessed one of the greatest basketball games EVER played and may be witnessing the greatest NBA Finals of all time! I legitimately feel lucky to have had this human experience.

Crazy that we went from Avs “Cup or bust” to the Avs losing in spectacular fashion again & we want to extend coach. Obv a collective failure, but big player trades, goalie changes, fired ST coach, all been done. I’ve defended Bednar. Denver legend. But…

@byesline "Collective failure" Makar got hurt at the mf worst inopportune time. That was no small loss. Players lost, not Bednar, just like with the Nuggets. No one called for Payton's head after Nix got hurt and Jarrett Stidham had a brain cramp for the ages and Denver's ass lost.

The 2026 Spurs. The most ahead of schedule team in NBA history. San Antonio won 34 games last year. Now they’re in the NBA Finals?! The history of the NBA is about the climb. Jordan, Shaq/Kobe, LeBron, etc all had to fail first….but not these Spurs.

A central difference in this analogy is that the Braves had so much more postseason success and fell shorter closer to the finish line. Probably made it more painful, but makes Avs a poor man’s Braves.

I view the Avs in some ways to the 1990’s Atlanta Braves. The best roster on paper for years…among favorites to win World Series for a decade…break through for one title…fall short the rest of the window. Won a title? Yes. Should it have been a dynasty? Also, yes.

The ‘22 Cup run was legendary for the Avs. The rest of this era? Mostly defined by collapse 2026 we’re living it 2025 up 2-0 in G7 vs Dallas…lost 2024 up 1-0 in G6 vs Dallas…lost 2023 upset in 1st round 2021 blew 2-0 series lead vs VGK 2020 blew 4-3 lead in G7 vs Dallas

The Colorado Avalanche had a 2-0 series lead vs Vegas in 2021. Since then they have lost 8 consecutive postseason games to the Golden Knights.

The Colorado Avalanche, the Stanley Cup favorite this time last week, have been swept in a series in which they were favored in every single game.

The Avs are dialed in!! It’s 8 min into the first period and all things feel possible again.

Hard not to have a haunting feeling about the Colorado Avalanche right now.
