Literally all of this “gen x had nothing” rhetoric can be disproven by my dad growing up in squalor but then talking about going to the disco every Saturday night and having a full night out with 15 quid in his pocket like that’s just ridiculous
Innocent Bystander@supertolerant

I was young in the 80s/90s in the UK. I don’t remember my parents ever going out to eat, except when we were on holiday (in the UK). I don’t think they ever took me to a fast food restaurant, or ordered takeaway food. People today have no clue how working people lived. /1

Multiple people try to get this woman to please take a seat like everyone else at the Eastland Career Center Graduation She starts comparing taking a seat to the 1920s when slavery was going on When the camera zooms out you can see she’s blocking multiple bleachers worth of people trying to watch the graduation, all of which are following the rules and sitting patiently in their seats Many people say they’re tired of this type of behavior in America I’m 100% against a social credit system, but let’s just say if we did have one….. a lot of people would fail horribly in America

Almost like new cars are preferable because you can actually drive them for 10+ years instead of having to constantly repair someone's used shitbox. Especially now when used cars are ridiculously inflated and are barely even cheaper than new cars.
GiantMeteor2028 🧐🤔🤨 ☄️@eurekaskastle

@revenant_MMXX Over 30 years I have owned six different cars. The two cars that I purchased brand new spanned 25 of those 30 years.

Boomers unironically believe that the welfare (Social Security) they receive is "my money." They talk to you like you have a gambling debt and will break your legs if you don't pay up. Try not to break a hip on your collection run, gramps.

You are either being purposely antagonistic or you are utterly stupid. I'm guessing it's a bit of both. Many people have paid into social security over their entire careers with the promise that this 'forced savings' would provide them with income when they are older. This wasn't just a 'tax', it was a dumb plan that is failing because it was not managed properly. I'd rather have kept my own money and invested in stocks and real estate assets. The cash surplus of days past was squandered and now you have a younger generation struggling to work and not able to maintain the cash flow needed to sustain the system. It's a big Ponzi scheme and I don't blame the young folks for their pessimistic outlook. Boomers paid into it so don't act like they are just getting free money!

During the 70s the median mortgage payment made up less than 20% the median salary. Today it’s nearly 30%. Which btw, means the median salary doesn’t even qualify for a mortgage on a median priced house. Yes, you experienced inflation in the 70s. But life’s necessities were dramatically cheaper as a percentage of wages.
RunningBear@RunningBear571

@KeystoneRanger1 @beerandtokens Boomers who lived through the 1970s when we had SEVEN PERCENT annualized inflation... EVERY YEAR, FOR AN ENTIRE DECADE And 15+% mortgages.. "Don't understand inflation". Who teaches you people this nonsense?

Boomers will outsource all the manufacturing jobs and import 100 million foreigners then tell you to "start at the bottom and work up."
That LEGACY Jones Fan@thatjonesfan

@Imperium953 @NEETzscheIDDQD Start at the bottom and work up. Whys it hard to accept? Use that as fuel to get out of the trenches. I was tired of bologna/cheese sandwhiches and hamburger helper every dinner while growing up in my parents house. So i worked hard to live a better life.
