School morale begins with superintendents. They are the thermostat that creates the climate for the whole district. Spend time in the schools to encourage, support, & appreciate administrators, teachers, & staff in the schools. There is no better way to build team!

When it comes to changing behavior, there is no substitute for relationships between educators and students. Tickets, stickers, candy, and “tiger bucks” can’t replace relationships. I’m not saying never to use those things, but they are not the foundation. #thatonekid #edchat

Some students need adults who believe in them, love them, support them, and see greatness in them even when they don't see it yet themselves!

Students are working on independent novel study projects. Love seeing their creativity in re-creating book covers!

I’ll say it over and over again.

Focusing on Relationships first doesn't mean an administrator or a teacher doesn't have high expectations to get the best of those they lead, but rather without the relationships first it is all but impossible to get their best, especially on a consistent basis.

Effective teachers don't focus so much on rules, but more on relationships, routines, & expectations. If you focus mainly on rules, you will spend most of the year enforcing them. But if you focus on relationships, routines, & expectations, you rarely have to defer back to rules.
