Earlier today we joined The Mike Farwell Show (CityNews 570) to talk about something that matters to a lot of residents in Waterloo: the city’s new fireworks bylaw. In the segment, the Canadian National Fireworks Association shared concerns and raised the key questions that need to be asked, including: 🎆 What problem is this bylaw actually trying to solve? 🎆 Does it balance safety with fairness? 🎆 How will it impact responsible families and community celebrations? We’re always in favour of safe, responsible celebrations. We’re also in favour of bylaws that are clear, enforceable, and based on facts, not fear. 🎧 The fireworks bylaw discussion started at 1:24:49 in the episode: kitchener.citynews.ca/audio/the-mike…

In 2025, Natural Resources Canada published proposed regulatory amendments that would change how fireworks are transported, handled and permitted in Canada. As drafted, these changes will create serious operational barriers for the industry, including new transportation permits and certification requirements that would cancel fireworks displays across Canada. There is also a proposed licensing requirement tied to routine warehousing and fulfillment activities under an existing vendor licence. That means higher costs, added administrative burden, and unnecessary layers of compliance. This is overreach, plain and simple. If these amendments move forward as written, communities lose celebrations, businesses lose revenue, and a long-standing Canadian tradition gets buried under paperwork. Shape the future of firework regulations in Canada by joining the CNFA. Contact us to keep the industry alive and protect responsible fireworks nationwide.

Huntsville is moving in the right direction. CNFA helped shape an updated fireworks by-law that protects long-standing traditions for both consumer fireworks and professional displays. Council directed staff to eliminate the $300 exemption fee, removing an unnecessary barrier to lawful use. Final approval is expected in the months ahead, but the direction is clear: modern rules that make sense for the community. Want to protect responsible fireworks in Canada? Join CNFA, and invite a friend to join too. More members means a stronger voice at the table.

Edmonton is reviewing how fireworks are communicated, sold, and included in community events. The key focus is making sure cultural and religious celebrations, including Diwali and Lunar New Year, aren’t swept aside by one-size-fits-all restrictions. CNFA is actively working with city officials as this review moves forward, with a report expected in 2026. This is what advocacy looks like when access and inclusion are part of the conversation from the start. Want a voice at the table? Join CNFA. The more members we have, the harder it is to ignore the facts.

Winnipeg’s fireworks by-law review is still ongoing, but 2025 delivered a meaningful shift. CNFA pushed for something simple and long overdue: a seat at the consultation table. By bringing national data and real-world industry insight into the discussion, the conversation moved away from reactionary policy. As a direct result, a full ban is no longer being considered. A formal report is expected in March 2026. That’s not nothing. That’s progress. Want your voice in the room too? Join the CNFA.

If there’s one word that sums up 2025, it’s busy. It was a year of council meetings, draft reports, surprise motions, last-minute revisions, and plenty of moments where things could have gone sideways. Here’s the good news: showing up early, staying engaged, and pushing back with facts worked. Real progress happened because informed voices stayed in the room. Heading into 2026, the work matters more than ever. If you care about fair access and responsible fireworks in Canada, CNFA is already at the table. If you know someone who cares about responsible celebrations and fair policy, forward this message and invite them to join CNFA. The more voices we have, the stronger we are.
