I think about books for a living. “In the dying world I come from, quotation is a national vice”.

They should change the name to "Strait of Schrödinger". It's both open and closed at the same time.

Somehow Keir Starmer is as self-serving, careless, unreliable and dishonest as Boris Johnson was, but he remains deeply boring and colourless, with none Boris’s occasional roguish charm. Starmer’s uninterestingness was supposed to be his appeal but he’s both dull and terrible

Surely, if it doesn’t exist already, somewhere an author is now rushing to finish a novel in which the Pope, at the end of a tough day administering to the universal church, slips into the mean streets of Rome to tackle crime that the Italian police just can’t crack themselves

Why is the government having Keir Starmer, supremo of embarrassing u-turns, front up the effort to put an ultimatum to junior doctors?

@_F_B_G_ @Peter88902568 I’m also imagining a prequel in which we learn that the Major was there as a younger man, and that’s how he came to live there

@Peter88902568 Probably my favourite little joke in FT is when O’Reilly asks Manuel where ‘the Generalissimo’ is and he incredulously answers ‘in Madrid!’

I hope ‘Fawlty Towers Revisited’ is actually like Brideshead Revisited- a melancholy eulogy for the golden age of naff British hotels with the theme of Manuel’s Catholicism bubbling up throughout.
