@TDU_Chargers Who cares about the comp formula? If we want Herbert to survive, we have to invest in the interior line with starting caliber players and bottom of the barrel discounts.

Some thoughts for anyone who is FURIOUS about the lack of first wave free agency activity from Joe Hortiz so far⚡️: 1. Remember. About half of the bigger free agent contracts handed out each offseason end up looking like bad deals within twelve months' time (hello, Mekhi Becton?) 2. The best free agency deals are usually not the 'sexy ones'. They're the ones where the player outperforms the value of the deal (Donte Jackson, Da'Shawn Hand, hopefully Charlie Kolar!) 3. This year is a weaker free agent class than usual. Which contract signed yesterday do you REALLY wish the Chargers had signed? Seumalo? Is that the big regret? 4. Oweh & Zion signing for big money elsewhere impacts Hortiz's strategy moving forward because he now knows that: (a) he'll have an additional 2027 3rd round pick heading his way for Oweh as long as he signs no more qualifying external FAs (b) he'll also get an additional 2027 4th round pick as long as one more Chargers FA (Pipkins, Salyer, Hand, Perryman, Jefferson) signs for at leat $3.5m with another team. Currently that 4th rounder is cancelled out in the chart. This doesn't mean he won't attempt to sign more externals. After all, reports are they offered a deal to sign Rashid Shaheed. But it may mean they'll only do it for players like him that they view as more valuable than a 2027 3rd or 4th round pick. 5. Signing players who were cut from other teams (eg, Elgton Jenkins) is another way of acquiring talent that doesn't count against the comp pick formula. You can still find really good players this way. Keep an eye out for these types of targets over the next few days. 6. Trading for a player is still an option. We've all heard the QJ whispers. 7. Acquiring players after the Draft is another way to bring in talent. They won't count against the comp pick formula at that point. 8. It's only been ~ 24 hours since free agency begun. Still lots of work to be done #BoltFam. Keep the faith!
