@GSerbin_25 You can write a great, unfaithful adaptation. Totally possible. We disagree about whether HOTD is accomplishing that possibility. I’m genuinely glad you’re finding enjoyment in the show.

@c_tuthill The book purists are the idiots. Its an impossible book to adapt faithfully because of how George wrote it. Plus its not a very good book either. The show has made over half a dozen characters better & executed crucial historic events better. Family drama & political squabbles

It’s discouraging how many people think House of The Dragon criticism is only due to book purism. HOTD if you look at the show in a vacuum is an incoherent and unbalanced political drama one minute and weightless eye candy the next.

@GreaseGoblins I agree. But from what I’ve seen/read, his obsession with the source material was essential in George pushing for him as show runner. Maybe he doesn’t have the creative freedom D&D had, but other than financial limitations, I can’t find any evidence that he’s not in charge.

@c_tuthill Exactly I am one of those people and if Ryan consistently was not trying to say it was a faithful adaptation and just went the route of this is my own story inspired by F&B but not really an adaptation. I think that would give him the freedom to tell a much more coherent story

@torinthestorm I think it’d be foolish and stubborn to treat Fire&Blood or earlier iterations of the Dance as if it were George’s best writing.

@c_tuthill I remeber a while back before season eight of GOT dropped I found one of those medevil/got blogs who would continually trash the dance as the worst part of George’s narrative history. I thought it was overly harsh at the time but now I think they might have had a lot of points.

@c_tuthill bullet points no longer make sense, for instance how do they get Rhaenyra to not be in the battle when it does not fit the show character. Lock her in a room that in theory works but execution is terrible.

@GreaseGoblins that feel like natural climax points for the reconstructed/alternative universe characters they created.

@GreaseGoblins It’s a good point about walking that line and adhering to highlights broadly. It throws the characterization of the major events way off to the point of character motives are inconsistent from episode to episode. They’d be better served to create their own highlights-

@GreaseGoblins The best way I’ve found to view it without getting wrapped up in how faithful it is; is to treat it like a show inspired by Fire & Blood and just drop the idea that it’s an adaptation.

@c_tuthill I totally agree I get so tired of having to explain this while saying anything remotely negative about the show. S1 was not a strict adaptation of F&B but almost everyone like it because for the most part the writing was good

@wayne77miller The show has legitimate flaws outside of not being a faithful adaptation. That’s my point.

@c_tuthill What are you on about. Every show only person is just hype. I’m a book reader and all the complaints are from other book readers. Genuinely what are you talking about.

@MovieFlameProd People say this so frequently and it’s as if you deliberately pretend the 4th and 5th books don’t completely sabotage this “theory” and at the very least massively recontexualize any overlap in the show ending and the book’s ending.

I HAVE A THEORY about this.... I think George was actually more involved in the writing for the abysmal final season than he wants anyone to be aware of... I'd bet he had a similar story planned for the final book, and now he doesn't know what to do. We might never get this book... 😞

@Graysixell @littlefiendx In fairness you’re getting almost nothing from the book. Also fair, the book is being way overrated by many to justify their displeasure of HOTD.

This is my problem with people who have read the books. Allow us to enjoy the show. We don’t need you criticizing everything just because it deviates from the story in the book. House of the Dragon is a masterpiece, put the book somewhere and enjoy the show.
A@NerdInWhileLoop

His death wasn't that sad it was in Fire&Blood cuz of how stupid they changed it from the book Instead of showing us how Jace risked his life to save his little brothers, we got this blaming Rhaena and Sheepstealer They suck at writing and i feel sad for George seeing his shit

@Graysixell There’s plenty of grievances to be had without ever mentioning George RR Martin’s weakest writing. The show is in the middle maybe and has plenty to praise, but these “masterpiece” and 10/10 assessments come across as gaslighting as much as the “worst show ever” crowd.

You might find more enjoyment when you realize House of The Dragon is not an adaptation with a few changes, but instead it’s only inspired by events in Fire & Blood. Does that explain shaky character motivations and inconsistent episode to episode continuity? No.
