If you've been paying attention, then you would've noticed that Darby Allin has been set up to beat MJF for a while now. - Darby beat Mox, then ran through the Death Riders - He’s been undefeated in singles action in 2026. - March 11: Kyle Fletcher grows suspicious that Don Callis and MJF are working together on something. - March 18: Darby beats Gabe Kidd in a Coffin Match and cuts a promo after, saying, “Maxwell Jacob Friedman, I’m coming.” - March 18: While MJF is set to face Kenny Omega, his bigger concern is Darby. He pays the Don Callis Family to handle the Darby problem. He’s already looking ahead, confident he can beat Kenny. - March 25: The Don Callis Family take out Darby for Max, because that's the guy Max fears the most. - April 1: Darby cuts another promo, calling out MJF and telling him he’s scared. - April 8: The clearest sign that Darby was the one. He cuts a promo laying out exactly why he wants to win the AEW Championship. - April 12: He challenges MJF after beating Andrade at Dynasty. - April 15: The entire episode is built around telling you that Darby is the guy...and he wins the AEW Championship. None of this was surprising, if you were watching.
