I’ve been pleasantly surprised with Michael McCarron since his arrival to #mnwild Lots of pushback on the Wild giving up a 2nd for him (other teams were reportedly offering 3rds + lower level asset), but the early dividends across his first 7 games look good! At 5v5, he’s got a 51.1% xG share, 2-2 on goals, 33-23 advantage in SOGs and a 53% Corsi share. He’s averaging about 11:40 TOI per game and has chipped in a goal and two assists, while adding 8 SOGs, 19 hits and winning 33 of 54 draws (61%). He’s 8/13 on the PK (62%). The Wild have taken 77 total draws with McCarron on the ice in all situations and 44 of those (57%) have come in the defensive zone. A sign they definitely trust him in those spots. Speaking of the PK, he’s been effective there too with 0 goals allowed in his 14:27 of PK time. Wild’s bottom 6 needed some beef, tertiary scoring, improved faceoffs, effective penalty killers and some overall consistency. He’s checked all those boxes. A good-looking acquisition so far.
