@Amarok1718934 Compassion is a beautiful thing @Amarok1718934 - good for you. 🐮 If it's too overwhelming, just start by swapping in soy/almond/oat milks, get used to that, then do butter, cheese & so on, learning as you go. More info: mercyforanimals.org/the-problem & tips at challenge22.com💚

@_HannahRitchie @NatureFoodJnl Did you happen to write up this response anywhere else, @_HannahRitchie? 🙏 TIA!
English

There is a new study in @NatureFoodJnl that suggests that 'food miles' account for nearly 20% of food emissions: nature.com/articles/s4301…
This is way higher than previous studies!
Except, this is not really the case & they're measuring very different things...

@Swifterbuck That's awesome, Kev. It's often easier than people think. What are your goals and main barriers with making the switch? I'd be happy to help / share some great resources. In the meantime, one of my favourite tips is just to start with any changes you can - as @joyfulvegan says 💚

@missroberts04_ Hey @missroberts04_ what is it about veganism that has caught your interest? I'd be happy to help share relevant tips and resources 💚

@our_yesterdays *I realise I said "we" (apologies!) - to clarify: this shift is open to most people in high-consuming countries (can be cheaper & healthier too), and city-level action is underway to help increase access & education, with many institutions & businesses also getting on board.
English

@our_yesterdays Well I'd say the beauty of plant-based diet shift is it's neither hard nor dangerous and in fact brings multiple co-benefits, so whatever we can do to help bring about a just food system transition, we should. Here's a good place to start: plantbasedtreaty.org/endorse/

So, another "here's what 'we' need to do to save ourselves" article. So many articles.
This by a former Chief Scientific Advisor to HMG.
The usual - carbon dioxide removal, "resilience" etc.
UTTER silence on a) elite failure and b) social movements.

@our_yesterdays Let's not give up before trying the solution that's right here on our plates and addresses all four of David's Rs: reducing & removing GHGs, repairing ecosystems & growing resilience: a #plantbasedfood transition. Details: plantbasedtreaty.org/scientific-pap…

This Nature Food article still crops up here and there. Hannah's response is useful.

@sentientism @GeorgeMonbiot @JamieWoodhouse @letsreplanet @DeBalie Yes exactly! I was lazily wrapping up the importance of evidence and reason into what I meant by sentientism for the purposes of the original tweet. Thanks putting it so much more clearly in your reply!
English

@calaurence @GeorgeMonbiot @JamieWoodhouse @letsreplanet @DeBalie Thank you Catherine!
Sentiocentric compassion isn’t enough if we get the facts wrong. We need a commitment to evidence and reason too. That doesn’t guarantee we’ll be right but it gives us the best chance - and means we’ll keep doing better instead of getting stuck in dogma.
English

Many thanks all for your very kind wishes.
Fewer thanks to those who still deny either that covid exists or that it can have serious consequences. See the responses to this tweet.
How many deaths, morbidities and long covid cases does it take before people accept the evidence?

@iamSandeepR Thanks. 3rd. Symptoms are cold-like so far
English

@GeorgeMonbiot Spot on & is why @JamieWoodhouse's work to popularise @sentientism is so vital. Hope you can be on his pod some time once you're better (soon I very much hope) – when you have time amidst your phenomenal work with @letsreplanet / #RebootFood. The @DeBalie talk tops them all ✊🐈⬛

@camerongreen @RogerMerry1 @GeorgeMonbiot Hehe yep. Animal products=health & enviro disaster. On the latter aspect, grazingfacts.com/grazing-myths is a great resource, separating "regenerative-grazing" fiction from fact. Hope everyone who follows George reads #Regenesis to understand the real solutions.

@RogerMerry1 @GeorgeMonbiot Hmm yes, steak, that well-known bulwark against chronic health conditions, zoonotic disease emergence, and destruction of planetary life support systems. 🤔

@_HannahRitchie Thanks for your great work. Gutting to see it being misused to claim that methane from cattle is benign and more grazing is what the world needs! twitter.com/JoeWStanley/st…

There are some things that are really so small that they don't make a difference.
But there are several big levers that we need to dramatically change to make a dent in global emissions.
What we eat is a big one.
I cover this here: ourworldindata.org/food-emissions…
