@jamesstca It's great to see that speeds of over 13 questions per minute can still be achieved (I assume that's by far the quickest chaser speed of the season), a shame the target wasn't much higher though as Goliath was definitely on track to catch a 20+ target at that rate!

What a strong win by Goliath today, a perfect catch of 14 at a speed of over 13.5 questions per minute! A repeat of that and he could have caught 27. This on a Monday does make it feel like Easter is close, we'll see what Tuesday is like. #TheChaseAus

@jamesstca In that case, it seems likely that episode numbers were only locked in as far as the first two weeks of new episodes (i.e. up to S16, Ep7) when the schedule changes were made.

@calzone325 Yes I assume so (S16, Ep7 in a four-new episode week, with the cricket special S16, Ep4 on the Sunday). Though I didn't see evidence of that in TV guides, unlike some other episodes that got moved.

@OneQnShootout @ashleyh19861 I've noticed that since 2024, they have always aired exactly 55 new episodes before going back to repeats (in 2024 this worked out nicely as 11 full weeks). This year, new episodes started on New Year's Day (which was a Thursday), so that might be why....

I don't want to keep going on about this, but today's #TheChaseAus Firepower was insane. A team with 13 (clearly below the historical average, especially for 3 players) offered 5 steps to start with a target well above average and a good chance to win! Why did they deserve that?

@jamesstca I'm all for finals being more exciting, but this just makes it all the more questionnable why Firepower wasn't offered for 12 steps last week... It probably is to do with filming order and more team wins than budgeted for, but to the average viewer it will likely seem unfair.

*Two teams have won with 11 before (again data not to hand). Hopefully the benefits of Firepower like games having more exciting targets and finishes are worth it, for general audience enjoyment and for ratings.

Today we got the first ever new #TheChaseAus episode to air on Australia Day! Also the first team to win only thanks to Firepower that I believe didn't deserve to... Clearly bigger boosts for lower targets are continuing, up from 11 to 15 steps for only a third of the prize fund!

A perfect catch of 17 steps on Wednesday by The Governess! Two nights in a row with the Chaser winning by over 30 seconds - clearly the claim in ads that all new games are down to the wire was false (or misleading if Seven were picturing an incredibly thick wire!). #TheChaseAus

@Kitty_B_Good @jamesstca @bymysidebritsau Now THAT's what you'd call going down to the wire! There seems to have been a lot of controversy online about whose answer should have been accepted for the pushback, I don't think this situation has ever occurred on #TheChase before.

@jamesstca I was hoping they'd have enough episodes in the can with genuinely close finishes to uphold the claim for at least the first couple of weeks of Season 16, especially while TP is off air, but maybe Seven are saving those until Ratings officially start (first week of Feb?)

@jamesstca I do find it frustrating when that happens! If it was a perfect catch by the Governess then I don't know why they didn't just use the full two-minute version of the FC music (as there wouldn't have been any pauses for pushbacks).

Not great that they still are editing the Final Chase music in some episodes, so it finishes around when the Chaser wins. If you know the music you could tell that The Governess was about to win with little difficulty as she got closer to the target.

@jamesstca This seems an interesting choice for the second new episode back considering how strongly Seven were promoting Final Chases going right down to the wire! I share your hope that Mara will be sufficiently challenged this series.

@jamesstca All very interesting points here... when you said that Firepower wasn't guaranteed to be offered, I assumed that meant the format point would only feature in certain episodes, not that Chasers (or producers) could actually decide whether to offer it or not!

A very different #TheChaseAus episode today, with 12 steps and Firepower NOT offered! Teams clearly can't assume they will end up with a middling to high target. The Smiling Assassin reasoning that the team have wide knowledge, she has a lot of gaps and has lost to this before...

Details have been revealed about this year's Christmas special. It will air on Christmas Eve at 5:55pm on ITV1. The celebrities taking part are Lucy Porter, Colin Murray, Tommy Blaize and Asim Chaudhry. The chasers will be dressed as Christmas Lunch. #TheChase
