@deceptiveStroke @JesseJenkins Cost of atoms of the materials I. Sodium ion batteries is 2-3x lower than lithium ion. The lower energy density means more process cost but you still end up roughly 30% below even the lowest estimates for where lithium ion LFP ends up.

@cody_a_hill @JesseJenkins True, however given sodium’s superior safety and thermal properties cells can be larger and packed more tightly at the system level which compensates for most of the cell level energy density penalty. Speaking in the context of NFPP cathodes which the optimal choice for ESS apps.

@JesseJenkins I disagree with "lower energy density isn't a problem for stationary grid storage," although certainly less of a problem, land is crazy expensive (competition with logistics and data centers) in most of the industrial places near load that most need a lot of storage.
