It was a wild one in Historic Las Vegas, NM, on Saturday afternoon (10/18/25), as NM Highlands scored the go ahead TD with 5 seconds remaining to beat Mesa 28-22. After leading the entire game, NM Highlands found themselves trailing for the 1st time when Mesa scored a TD with 1:55 remaining in the game to take a 22-19 lead. The Cowboys’ true freshman QB Collin Stucki looked like a poised and savvy veteran as he completed 5 of 7 passes and ran the ball for 9 yards, to led NM Highlands on a 72 yard drive that ended with a game winning TD pass to Alejandro Valenzuela with 5 seconds remaining. The final drive by Stucki and the spectacular diving TD catch by Valenzuela was the stuff that will be remembered for years to come. Leading NM Highlands to the win were: 🏈 Collin Stucki, 18 Cmps on 27 Atts for 199 Yds & 2 TDs; 🏈 Tevita Valeti, 15 Carries for 55 Yds & 1 TD; 🏈 Maurice Collier, Jr., 5 Recs for 75 Yds; 🏈 Mike Jones, 4 Recs for 62 Yds & 1 TD; 🏈 Dontaivious Nelson, 7 Tackles (2 Solo & 5 Ast); 🏈 Kaleb Sells, 5 Tackles (3 Solo & 2 Ast) with 1 TFL & 1 Forced Fumble. NM Highlands Media Days 2025 - My Takeaways 1) Expecting a bigger, faster, more athletic, and more disciplined Cowboys’ team this season. 2) It’s telling that Coach Taufa’asau praises his assistant coaches, calling them the best coaching staff in the country, and then RB Cayden Walton later describes OC Drew Thatcher as “amazing” and “the best coach [he] has ever played for.” 3) Have to love the hard nose, gritty attitude of OC Thatcher of grinding out 3.3 yards a carry to keep the chains moving and put up points. 4) FS Austin Turnbow is an amazing human being having completed a 2 year mission in Guatemala. He has me, and I’m sure everyone else, excited about this year’s defense, who he describes as a Brotherhood of Dawgs with the sole goal of not letting offenses score. 5) Great team wide goal of improving every day, getting at least 1% better every day, winning the day every day! #RMAC #RMACfb #CowboyTough #TheNEWHighlands
