Re-upping this thread on the counselor:student ratio since I saw it mentioned today. We need to hire more school counselors. They can have a big impact on college-going. See the work by @camulhern. But we also should be accurate about the scale of the problem.

THREAD: GOOD NEWS ABOUT HS COUNSELORS In a really good thread about kids getting into college yesterday, @jselingo claimed the "typical counselor-to-student ratio is 1:464." HS counselors do amazing work and are underappreciated. But in the HS context, that number is wrong.

More broadly, these results indicate that counselors are an important education input and that personalized advising may be a useful way to improve social and economic outcomes in a variety of settings.
