Chinese is one of the few languages I simply cannot listen to in media, it's like nails on a chalkboard to my ears.
I don't like it, I refuse to listen to it. Japanese just sounds far better to listen to, its just phonetically pleasing.

It's very hard to succeed if you have to spend all your time on survival.
On the other hand it's relatively easy to succeed when you never have to worry about food and lodging and can keep experimenting over and over again until something sticks.
Also the knowledge gained from who you hang out with automatically trains you on how to act and what to say.
I highly doubt a billionaire dropped into a third world country with $5 would succeed.
