What's amazing, fantastic, and incredible is that it's the quiet plodders in the NHS that get all the work done.

My mum spent the day on the phone to the UK’s foreign office asking them to protect their citizens on the flotilla. They told her “the British government is not able to provide assistance at the moment”. Spain & Italy are sending us navy ships. @Keir_Starmer, step up.

One of the most under rated tweets about the whole #PhysicianAssistant fiasco Total number of jobs available today on NHS jobs? Zero. And most of the architects who led this? Retired, Resigned, Left. Accountability? Zero.
Ciara McMillan@CiaraMcMillan4

The whole Physician Assistant saga is giving me strong déjà vu of Brexit: - Bold promises of better outcomes at lower cost! - Critics dismissed as elites with vested interests - Leaders never had to bear the consequences - Believers now left in regulatory limbo #LengReview

BREAKING: A UN inquiry has concluded that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza. This adds to the growing consensus among international legal scholars and human rights organisations. All eyes are now on the UK Government who must stop indulging in genocide denial. It must fulfil its legal and moral responsibility by taking immediate, decisive steps to prevent and punish genocide.

Indeed, there needs to be a realistic look at staffing ratios across the board. For decades, in the UK, we have had one of the lowest numbers of doctors per headcount of the population. Healthcare is not just about modern hospitals and technology. It's about people

How does leadership support QI success? In their qualitative study, @adrianwagg & colleagues found leaders help teams adopt and sustain change by: 1️⃣ Developing and reaffirming teams’ commitment to the QI intervention 2️⃣ Fostering follower participation and empowering care aides to step into team leadership roles 3️⃣ Actively supporting team-oriented processes bit.ly/40DPMui

@trentconsultant There are better EHRs but I agree I am now doing electronically, in time I never used to need, jobs that other people such as my secretary used to do. And my sec is doing work in her evenings off and at weekends that other secs used to do. It's all much more efficient, though.

I like IT. I’m good at IT. But in so many ways IT has damaged my productivity - in particular due to the organisational changes it drives (no letters in paper notes, no flickability for example). No doubt I just haven’t met my perfect match yet.

I’ve reported 18 wars over 35 years. I’ve been shot at, kidnapped, threatened, nearly raped. I’ve lost friends from Sarajevo to Syria. I thought I’d seen the worst of humanity. I was wrong. Nothing compares to Gaza — or the complicity letting it happen. #GazaGenocide #WarCrimes

@xxsnzz Thanks. I'm serious though. Are you an NHS leader? If so, how easy would it be to go against the flow if you thought a policy was daft, and would it enhance or limit career prospects in the organisation?

@Aadam_Aziz Short staffing .... the ultimate form of industrial action is not to accept employment on degraded conditions. When you complain about striking doctors, please remember that they are the one who have actually committed to work for what they know is less than their worth.

Imagine your child is in one of the world’s most prestigious children’s hospitals. You trust they’re in the safest hands. Then you learn physician assistants, not doctors, were knowingly used to cover surgical registrar shifts. This is a scandal and a betrayal of public trust.

@ItsnotrightUK That's a bit of a an assumption re investment growth, but there is nothing to prevent a doctor investing 12.5% / up to £60 000 annually in a SIPP instead of the NHS pension scheme. Few financial advisers seem to be recommending that.

Doctors do not have a gold plated pension. We contribute 12.5% of our income into it. If our base pay was to grow at 4% per year for the next 44 years (doctor starts work at aged 24) If we took the same 12.5% and put that money into a SMP 500 tracker we would have a pension pot of Wait for it £13 million If we live another 20 years in retirement and draw down 4% a year we would leave our family with balance in our SIPP of £38.6 million And that including drawing down £500k pa in year one of retirement with would also grow to £1.4m annual drawdown per year after 20 years. Doctors dont have a gold plated pension. They subsidise the NHS pension.
