Spent the morning being shown around the Canadian War Museum by James Whitham the Director General of the Museum. It is the most impressive war museum and well worth the visit. I saw not only the exhibits but the back room activities. Nothing woke about it. It’s a WAR Museum. The @I_W_M in London could learn a thing or two from them. warmuseum.ca

Hatched in 1925 in England, Rex was one of 50 racing pigeons donated to the Royal Canadian Air Force by King George V. Rex was celebrated by aircrew and pigeoneers alike as “a bird to remember” before he died in 1940 in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. CWM 19740450‑001

Starting in 1973, over 250 Canadians served with the ICCS to monitor the Vietnam ceasefire. Violations were constant and risks were real. On April 7, Capt. Charles Eugene Laviolette was killed when his helicopter was shot down. 🇨🇦 CWM 19750461-092 #CanadianHistory

On 19 Jan 1942, U-66 sank RMS Lady Hawkins. Chief Officer Percy Kelly, bandaged, poses with Captain Nels Helgesen, who rescued 71 after 5 days in a lifeboat. Around 250 lives were lost. George Metcalf Archival Collection CWM 20040004‑005_43

“Iced Up” shows the brutal winter labour of keeping ships operational. Two sailors aboard HMCS Shawinigan chip ice from a depth charge launcher, where buildup could threaten stability and weapons use. Shawinigan later sank off Newfoundland in 1944. ❄️ warmuseum.ca/navalhistory
