Statement on strikes on Al Minhad Air Base On the morning of 18 March 2026 (AEDT), an Iranian strike impacted an area at the Al Minhad Air Base in the United Arab Emirates, where the Australian Defence Force (ADF) has a long‑standing presence. No ADF personnel were injured in the incident, and all ADF personnel deployed to the Middle East are safe and accounted for. The strike resulted in minor damage to an accommodation block and medical facility in the Australian section of the base. Defence’s focus is on ensuring the safety and security of our people, and we will continue to revise force protection measures as the situation in the Middle East evolves. A new training system is improving realism on Exercise Keldie Cup 25. Known as the Enhanced Personal Area Network (EPAN), the wearable laser-based training equipment provides feedback when fighting simulated enemies. EPAN integrates with small arms and can simulate a laser from a 120mm main gun to indicate when and where soldiers and vehicles are hit. Exercise Cobra Gold 🐍 The Australian Defence Force (ADF) participated in the 45th iteration of Exercise Cobra Gold in 📍 Thailand from 23 February to 6 March 2026. Exercise Cobra Gold is designed to improve multinational interoperability and the capability to effectively plan and execute realistic and challenging operations within a Thai‑led multinational force, in response to small‑scale conventional threats within the Pacific region. The ADF deployed 19 personnel to integrate into the multinational headquarters, with a focus on strengthening joint capabilities in space and cyber. Soldiers, sailors and aviators aboard HMA Ships Canberra and Choules carried out amphibious landings at 📍 Cowley Beach, moving troops, vehicles and equipment ashore by both boat and helicopter across North‑Eastern Queensland. Australia’s maritime security has received a $176 million boost to deliver 40 new Australian-designed and built Bluebottle uncrewed surface vessels. The Bluebottle, developed in partnership with the @Australian_Navy, is a long-endurance USV powered by solar, wind and wave energy. It provides persistent surface and sub-surface surveillance, can carry payloads and operates as part of a teamed, integrated maritime force. The contract with @OciusTechnology expands Navy’s operational fleet to 55 Bluebottles, significantly boosting long-range intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance capability across Australia’s vast maritime domain. #YourADF #AusNavy
