☘️ Supporting the Traditions that Shape Ireland’s Countryside. Traditional Irish farm buildings characterise the Irish landscape and serve as repositories of traditional building and craft skills, reminding us of the historical legacy of rural smallholdings. This highly valued Mayo ‘granary’, dating to the second half of the 19th century, was restored under ACRES supported by the Traditional Farm Building Grant Scheme. Works included repairs to the roof, stonework, and external joinery, as well as renewal of the loft floor and reinstatement of the external stone steps. While it is likely that it was once a single-storey cottage, the building now serves as a donkey shelter and hay store. The Traditional Farm Buildings Grant Scheme, funded by the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, has supported over 1,000 traditional farm building restoration projects, recognising their cultural value and ensuring their conservation for agricultural use into the future. ☘️ Supporting the Traditions that Shape Ireland’s Countryside. We are celebrating hedgerows as an important Irish landscape feature during this St. Patrick’s week. 🌿 Hedgerows are a prominent feature of Ireland’s rural landscape and represent the most widespread wildlife habitat on farmland. With an estimated 689,000 km across the Republic of Ireland, they form a vast network of field boundaries that support biodiversity and deliver key ecosystem services such as carbon storage, soil protection, and flood regulation. 🟢 Under the Eco-scheme (CAP Strategic Plan 2023-2027), farmers can choose from 8 agricultural practices, and must select two of these practices or an enhanced option to qualify. Practices relating to hedgerows include: AP1: Space for Nature- Devote a portion of the farm for biodiversity-enhancing features (e.g. hedgerows, trees, scrub, landscape/budder features). AP4 Planting of Native Trees and/or Hedgerows- Plant native trees or new hedgerows each year across eligible areas. 🟢 In addition, ACRES provides subsidies for voluntary measures, or non-productive investments (NPIs), where participants can plant hedgerows on their farms. To be eligible for payments, participants must complete NPIs in accordance with the published ACRES specifications. For more info, see Non-Productive Investments and Landscape Actions: gov.ie/en/department-… 🌿 The CAP Strategic Plan 2023–2027 supports the preservation of Ireland’s rural & agricultural heritage through a wide range of initiatives and supports. capnetworkireland.eu Beannachtaí na Féile Pádraig! @followers #capnetworkireland #hedgerowsireland #SustainableFarming #AgricultureIreland #Teagasc @agriculture_ie | @eucapnetwork | @irishrurallink | @MTU_ie | @ERINNinnovation

☘️ Supporting the Traditions that Shape Ireland’s Countryside. With the support of the #LEADER programme, ‘Design Bank’, a former bank building in Milltown Malbay in Co. Clare, was transformed into a dynamic co-working and retail space for artisans, craftspeople, and artists – creating employment, supporting over 60 local makers, and bringing new energy into the town centre. As we celebrate Ireland’s culture this week, this project shows how local vision, collaboration and LEADER funding can turn underused rural spaces into places where creativity and community thrive. 👉 Read the case study here: capnetworkireland.eu/design-bank-le… The CAP Strategic Plan 2023–2027 supports the preservation of Ireland’s rural & agricultural heritage through a wide range of initiatives and supports. capnetworkireland.eu Beannachtaí na Féile Pádraig! #capnetworkireland #LeaderCLLD #RuralInnovation #ruraltraditionsireland @LEOCountyClare |@DeptRCDG | @agriculture_ie | @eucapnetwork | @irishrurallink | @MTU_ie | ERINN Innovation

☘️ Supporting the Traditions that Shape Ireland’s Countryside. We are celebrating our traditional Irish breeds during St. Patrick's week. The Mayo Blackface is a traditional hill sheep breed associated with County Mayo and the west of Ireland. Renowned for its mothering ability, the Mayo Blackface is capable of rearing lambs in tough environments and efficiently converting poor-quality forage into quality meat. The Mayo Blackface Sheep Producer Organisation, supported by the Early-Stage Support for Producer Organisations (ESSPO) under the CAP Strategic Plan 2023-2027, is strengthening the group’s marketing position, improving returns for members and supporting the development of the group’s own brand and label. 👉 Learn more here: capnetworkireland.eu/strength-in-nu… The CAP Strategic Plan 2023–2027 supports the preservation of Ireland’s rural & agricultural heritage through a wide range of initiatives and supports. capnetworkireland.eu Beannachtaí na Féile Pádraig! #capnetworkireland #mayoblackface #SustainableFarming #AgricultureIreland @agriculture_ie | @eucapnetwork | @irishrurallink | @MTU_ie | ERINN Innovation
