@Tazerface16 Oh, AND, we have a shitload of sun, wind, are surrounded by oceans that could provide wave energy, but we keep yapping about the 'energy transition' instead of moving to #renewables while continuing to extract our coal and gas mostly for EXPORT. #Straya

@Tazerface16 Here in Australia, we only have a month or so of fuel, against IEA 90-day guidelines. This in a country that has some of the longest road-train routes in the world. Oh and we pay to store a bunch of crude in the ... wait for it ... USA. 🤣🤣 So fun to be a sucker state.

I don't think most people seem to realize we're about to have the worst oil shortage in history. It's really weird.

🚨UPDATE🚨 Australia is now legally in the war against Iran. Australia is by legal definition a “belligerent” in the war against Iran — and therefore legally targets of Iranian forces. “Prof Emily Crawford of Sydney University & Donald Rothwell of Australian National University said: Australia is now a “belligerent” under international law because it has provided military personnel to defend one side, a legal distinction that permits Iran to attack Australian military personnel.” - The Nightly. 🚨Updated List 🚨 Australia now has over 300 military personnel in the Persian Gulf area — as well as several devoted joint military intelligence bases assisting the US in their illegal war on Iran. ▪️Pine Gap spy base in the NT intel being used by the US for targeting of missile and bomb strikes in Iran ▪️NW Cape communications base in WA assisting US killer subs including against Iranian shipping ▪️ Australia has a military base at ADF Middle East Headquarters at Al Minhad Airbase in UAE serving as a logistical hub ▪️90+ SAS special forces soldiers now conceded as deployed to UAE, and other unstated locations in Persian Gulf area. ▪️100+ military personnel of Joint Task Force 633 stationed at the ADF Middle East Headquarters at Al Minhad Airbase in UAE ▪️50+ RAN personnel serving on US nuclear submarines, including in Middle East area ▪️Australian ADF personnel (number not disclosed) are embedded in the Combined Air Operations Centre (CAOC) of the forward headquarters of CENTCOM, the US Central Command at the Udeid Airbase in Qatar. ▪️ ADF personnel (number not disclosed) embedded at HQ of CENTCOM, the US Central Command at MacDill Air Force Base, Florida USA. ▪️85 personnel deployed to support the E-7A Wedgetail battle management aircraft operating out of Al Minhad base ▪️16+ personnel deployed with US’s Combined Maritime Forces at the US Fifth Fleet Headquarters in Bahrain ▪️ASIS intelligence agents (number not disclosed) deployed in Middle East area ▪️ADF personnel deployed to support the Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air Missiles (AMRAAMs) given to UAE for use with UAE F-16 fighters against Iranian retaliatory attacks ▪️E7-A Wedgetail battle management aircraft deployed to UAE, and conceded by the Defence Minister as integrated with US military operations against Iran ▪️C-17A Globemaster transport plane deployed to UAE ▪️KC-30A Multi-Role Tanker midair refueler deployed to UAE 👉This is how it all works: Australia is providing intelligence architecture, intelligence collection, communication systems, military intelligence specialists, and the political cover that helps support the illegal war. In a globally networked world, it is the satellite feed, the launch detection, the target identification, the command post, the battle management platform, the submarine signals, the refuelling base, the overflight corridor, the embedded officers inside the US and coalition forces.  The country that provides those things is not outside the war, but is an intricate part of it. @heynavtoor This is an interesting study but honestly I'm struggling to read your post with its LinkedIn LLM vibe [Headline hook] [Short partial description] [Hold the phone there's more?] [Ooh another information tidbit] [Another weird declarative subheader] [Pithy musing] Repeat. Etc.

🚨SHOCKING: Researchers took ChatGPT away from workers for 4 days. They couldn't ask coworkers for help. They described talking to another human being as a burden. Here is what they found. Researchers conducted a four-day diary study on 10 knowledge workers who frequently use ChatGPT. They removed access to all LLMs completely and documented everything that happened. The disruption was immediate. Workflows broke down. Participants found gaps in their ability to execute tasks they previously handled with AI. Without the tool, they realized how many parts of their process had quietly been handed over to the machine. But the most disturbing finding wasn't about productivity. It was about people. When participants needed help during the withdrawal, they refused to ask coworkers. They described asking another human being for assistance as a social burden. They assumed their colleagues would find it tiring and burdensome. One participant said they avoided asking people questions because they feared being seen as a "finger prince" - a Korean slang term for someone who burdens others with easily searchable questions. They would rather switch between different AI services, from ChatGPT to Grok, than have a conversation with the person sitting next to them. ChatGPT didn't just become a tool. It replaced human interaction entirely. And when it was taken away, these workers had forgotten how to reach out to each other. The researchers described LLM use as "inescapably normative." The participants didn't even realize how dependent they had become until the AI was gone. It had woven itself so deeply into their daily routines that its absence felt disorienting. But here is what nobody expected. When forced to work without AI, participants started reclaiming professional values they had lost. They reconnected with their own thinking. Some found that human help was actually more useful than AI had ever been. One participant said that if the withdrawal had lasted a year, "discussions between people would be more active." Four days without ChatGPT and they remembered what it felt like to think for themselves. The question is whether the rest of us ever will.

@TracyWesterman And the video meeting not only requires us to be presentable, but forces us to sit still. As a neurodivergent person, I process better whilst moving, and prefer a phone call as I can walk around (and do housework/other tasks at same time).

Can we talk about the slow death of the phone call? Somewhere between Zoom, Teams, Skype and whatever new platform was invented since I started typing this sentence, someone decided that every conversation now requires me to be fully camera-ready. I am a marathon runner. I spend approximately 70% of my life looking like I’ve just been found at the side of a road. The phone call was BUILT for me. No link. No “you’re on mute Karen.” No existential panic about what’s visible behind me on screen. Now every “quick catch up” begins with downloading an update that is somehow always exactly 4 minutes long, locating the link I definitely saved, arranging my background so it doesn’t look like a crime scene, finding a top that is presentable from the shoulders up, and then sitting completely still like I’m giving evidence. The phone call asked nothing of me visually and I loved it unconditionally. It never judged my hair; my sweaty running clothes. It never froze at the exact moment I was making a critical point. It never made me stare at my own face for 45 minutes wondering when that happened. This is my “still waiting for Karen to find the link” face. 30 minutes in. Fully dressed. Hair done. Could have been a 5 minute phone call. I will not be taking questions. The phone call would like an apology.

ICE guards are betting on which detainee will kill themselves next. The AP just exposed the savage conditions of a detention camp in El Paso. The Associated Press got inside Camp East Montana. What they found should be on the front page of every newspaper in this country until it closes. About 3,000 people packed in per day. Loud, unsanitary quarters crawling with insects. Food so scarce that detainees steal from each other just to eat. Disease spreading through filthy rooms, showers, and restrooms that go uncleaned. People losing weight. People unable to see a doctor. People losing their minds. Staff made nearly one 911 call per day in the camp's first five months. One call captures a man sobbing after being assaulted by another detainee. Another has a doctor describing a man banging his head against a wall while expressing suicidal thoughts. A nurse calls about a pregnant woman in severe pain with coronavirus. Detainees suffering seizures, some resulting in serious head trauma. Ages ranged from a 19-year-old who fell from a bunk to a 79-year-old who couldn't breathe. And then there's the detail that should haunt this administration for the rest of its existence. Owen Ramsingh, a former property manager from Columbia, Missouri, who spent weeks in the camp before being deported to the Netherlands, told the AP he overheard a security guard talking about a betting pool among the staff. They were wagering on which detainee would be next to die by suicide. The guard said he had put $500 in. The total pot rode on the outcome. Ramsingh said the talk was particularly devastating because he had contemplated suicide himself. Guards are gambling on the deaths of people in their custody. People who are hungry. People who are sick. People who are begging for help through 911 calls that come in every single day. And the staff turned it into a game. This is not some rogue facility. This is the system working exactly as this administration designed it. Overcrowded by policy. Underfed by neglect. Understaffed by choice. They built a place where human beings deteriorate and then the people paid to watch over them place bets on who breaks first. The AP has the data. The recordings. The interviews. The court filings. This is documented. This is real. This is happening right now in El Paso, Texas, in the United States of America. Share this. Do not let them bury it under another news cycle.

3 minutes of Albo saying it's all cool, enjoy your Easter, followed by 15 minutes of folks talking about petrol and shots of bowsers, tankers, bowsers, punters, bowsers. Are we going to talk about Australia's alliance with a fascist dying empire, or no? #ABCTV #auspol
