@KaiserLoengramm The normies will see it as 'integrity'. So maybe it's about virtue singalling? I've seen it before and noticed it's easier to move in many circles that way.

There’s a common pattern I’m finding with those on the right who say we need the right and left to come together in various capacities, where they will give passes to the moderate Dems or leftists to different degrees and say we must come together on the “transcendent things.” These exact same people who say this will also absolutely viciously attack those on the right for a lack of purity, and commonly call out many on the right as traitors or subversives to something or another. This is a consistently repeated pattern. Demanding some kind of absolute purity out of right wing figures, but saying that we must overlook the fact we have absolutely no shared worldview with the left. I think many of these people aren’t even really conscious or aware of these complete and total contradictions either. I cannot wrap my head around this view or why they are even saying this though. It makes absolutely no sense.

I grew up on Online Right politics. I was a teenager during GamerGate. I have been following and aware of much for some time even if I didn’t have a voice or a platform. One thing that used to be a phenomenon back then was “internet blood sports.” You’d have generally inter-right wing figures come on to debate one another. They were often complete dumpster fires, but you’d also have many moments where people were shown to have not actually coherently thought out positions that, when challenged like this, were exposed in a way that only happens during a live discussion rather than a back and forth on text or just pontificating on your own platform. The IBS scene died pretty badly, most of the hosts ending up turning into lolcows or dying out. But I think this was actually in many ways quite useful. Several people who were involved with this came away for the better. It’s a way for iron to sharpen iron, to hash things out like this. I think we ought to have more of it, and it would probably do us a lot of good. Debates against leftists I think are mainly worthless, but if you have something of a shared worldview, you can actually find out exactly where your points of disagreement are, and test your ideas and beliefs against someone else. When I do this, I come away for the better almost always. So what do you think? Do we need more debate on the right? Poll below.

@ChavuraStephen I've been thinking about Chesterton's point that the modern man turned intellect from a faculty into a virtue. I can't remember the exact line but I think it's from 'Eugenics and other Evils'

25 years ago I thought intellectuals were important and salutary. Now I see them as pernicious to a large degree. They seem utterly detached at best and contemptuous at worst from so much that is salutary, except perhaps their own little bits of intellectual turf. Of course there are many exceptions, but good intellectuals seem to spend a lot of their time fending off the damage done by the rest. Perhaps Satan, the inventor of critical theory - "Did God say?" - was in that respect the first intellectual? I'm reading Phillip Rieff's Triumph of the Therapeutic right now. He says this: "The social type most obviously so detached is the intellectual. By our time, the detachment of the late nineteenth-century intellectual from a predominantly middle-class culture has been rendered general; the sight of vast numbers of middle-class intellectuals manques is terrible indeed, and culturally self-destructive."

Brandon Sanderson on why he would not finish George R.R. Martin's Game of Thrones even if he was asked: "I wouldn't say yes to finishing ASOIAF, if asked. (And I don't think they'd ask me.) I'd respectfully decline. I wouldn't be right for the job for many reasons. I wouldn't want to put in the content that the series has, and part of that is due to my religious faith, part of it is just who I am. I don't shy away from difficult material, but I prefer not to get explicit. Honestly, when I read it in George's work, I often just cringe. I don't think it fits in prose; I think it looks tacky. But that's almost 100% due to the my religious leanings. I realize that others don't read such scenes in the same way as I do. However, I'd suggest that this is actually a minor reason why I'd be a bad writer on this series, despite having enormous respect for GRRM and his talent as a storyteller. The primary reason has to do with fundamental optimism vs pessimism. I write darkness into my books, but it is darkness as contrast to light, and there is always a spark of hope. George's work seems fundamentally pessimistic--which I don't say as a slam. One of my favorite short stories is Harrison Bergeron, which is also fundamentally pessimistic. Saying George's work is pessimistic doesn't mean that HE is pessimistic, only that he creates a work of art that evokes emotion and discussion through pessimistic themes. As a comparison, I'm glad that Silver Age science fiction produced both Harrison Bergeron and Star Trek--but I'm Star Trek, not Harrison Bergeron. Calling me in to work on this piece would be like calling in Spielberg to finish a Tarantino film. (Not to imply I deserve to be ranked with either one.) Sure, he could do it, but wouldn't you want someone who themselves makes films with Tarantino-like themes? My work is also fundamentally different from George's in our use of magic. We've talked about books, and he points out (rightly) that I often use a heavily magical component in my stories--particularly the endings. This is because I'm writing science/magic hybrids, and the idea of magic as progress is fascinating to me. George, however, prefers his magic to be arcane, unknown, and dark--not a tool, but a force you can sometimes (with great danger) apply. This is a small issue, as I'm fond of books that use magic differently, I've just made a stylistic choice in how I do what I do." Do you think this still holds?

1am and it's all finished; ECG and blood tests came back totally normal. Going to follow up with my GP but so far it appears to have been a fluke. Huge thanks to everyone for your prayers. And a special thanks to the cute Chinese doctor who assessed me.

@TheOtherPaul2 Mate just checked this again after a few hours and saw the deets. You should get to hospital ASAP. If it's pericardiac/heart related they'll likely want to put you on steroids, which will reduce the chance of pernament damage to your heart If you have ivermectin handy take it.

For details: Sudden weakness in upper body, weaker heart feeling, breath slowed down, face got a touch yellow (according to mum), and my forehead started to sweat after lying down. I was standing and walking initially but it required slightly more effort. Lasted only a minute.

@JosephKrakora the rationalistic reductionists took over the protestants and then switfly proceeded to blow their own brains out. I say this as a non-Catholic with no intention of going Catholic. I just expect Rome to do quite well until the prots work out it's not all about cerebal sertility.

@KishoMoririn If God is indeed the maker of heaven and earth and all goodness flows from Him, then to judge rightfully belongs to him. To hand it over is only to accept one's right place in the comos. The good thing is He is compassionate and gracious. He is not aloof or uncaring.
