🎣 Captain Hook's Marathon Fishing Prediction — Sunday, March 22, 2026 Overall Grade: 75/100 — GOOD Spring is doing exactly what it's supposed to do out here in the Middle Keys, and Sunday looks like a day worth setting the alarm for. After Friday's breezy blow, the winds are backing off nicely overnight. By the time you're loading the cooler Sunday morning, you're looking at northeast winds 10–15 knots, Hawk Channel seas 2–3 feet, and mostly sunny skies with highs near 76°F. No Small Craft Advisory. No drama. Just a clean, comfortable ride out to the fish. And the fish? They're right where the water wants them to be. 🪸 REEF & NEARSHORE — The Star of the Show The reef edge is lit up right now. Warm, nutrient-rich water is pushing along the 20–60 foot zone, stacking baitfish right on structure — and where the bait goes, the yellowtail snapper follow. Conditions like these are exactly why serious anglers plan their trips around the science, not the calendar. Get your chum going early, use light tackle with live shrimp or pilchards, and work the moving tide windows. The 6–10 AM bite and the late afternoon 3–6 PM window are your prime shooting hours. Mangrove snapper and mutton snapper are also well-positioned. A northeast current sweep through Hawk Channel is pushing forage onto structure — fish are sitting on the upcurrent side of the reef, waiting. Free-lined live bait or a small jig on the drop will do the work. ⚓ OFFSHORE — The Thermal Break Is Your X Here's what has us most fired up for Sunday: the Gulf Stream is sitting unusually close — roughly 14 nautical miles southeast of Sombrero Key. That means the thermal break between cooler shelf water and warm 77°F+ Gulf Stream blue is positioned right over the 408 Hump and Marathon West Hump. That temperature edge is a highway for pelagics. Recent local captain reports confirm active sailfish. Kite fishing and live-bait drifting along that break are your go-to. Blackfin tuna are also working the humps — vertical jigging and live chumming during the morning and afternoon windows should produce. Mahi are starting to show with the seasonal push; troll ballyhoo while you're covering water between the humps. 🌿 BACKCOUNTRY — Early Risers Only Tarpon and snook are responding to warming water temperatures in the backcountry channels and flats. Low-light windows — dawn and dusk — are your best shots. Live mullet or crabs on heavy spinning gear for tarpon; soft plastics near mangrove edges for snook. Bonefish and permit are building as the migration warms up, with clear water helping sight-fishing conditions. ⏰ BEST WINDOWS SUNDAY: Early morning departure | 6–10 AM reef bite | 3–6 PM afternoon push Sunday is a day to fish. Don't leave the dock without a plan — and don't wait to book. 👉 Reserve your spot now: buff.ly/uK5g2RM Captain Hook's Marina & Dive Center | Marathon, Florida Keys

🎣 Captain Hook's Marina — Fishing Forecast: Thursday, February 19, 2026 Overall Grade: 80/100 — Good to Very Good The ocean is sending all the right signals for tomorrow, Marathon. Here's what the water is telling us. What We're Seeing A sharp temperature break is sitting right off our coast — warm Gulf Stream water running 77°F along the reef and offshore edges pushing against cooler 67-68°F water in Florida Bay. That boundary is a fish magnet. The offshore sweet spot between the reef and the Stream is holding a comfortable 72-74°F, stable overnight with no cold snaps to put fish off the bite. Active surface currents in the 0.3 to 2-knot range are creating visible rips and color changes around the 408 Hump, Marathon West Hump, and Woods Wall — exactly where you want to be chasing pelagics. Offshore water clarity is exceptional, running gin-clear with very low turbidity. Dry weather has kept the backcountry from muddying up the reef system. Your Three Zones Tomorrow 🌊 Offshore is the star of the show. Sailfish (82) are the headliner — kite fish with live goggle-eyes along the current rips early. King mackerel (83) are fired up on those same rips; troll skirted baits or live mullet from 9 AM to noon. Wahoo hunters should work the deep ledges at 150-300 feet, with the sunset window from 4-6 PM often delivering the best strikes. 🐠 The Reef is fishing beautifully. Yellowtail snapper (88) are your best bet — set up a chum slick early with the rising tide and light fluorocarbon leaders. The 6-9 AM window is money. Mangrove snapper (84) on structures and deep channels respond well to live pinfish on bottom rigs during moving water, especially mid-afternoon. 🌿 Backcountry requires patience today. Cooler bay temps around 67-68°F have snook (53) and bonefish (48) moving slow. Target the warmest, sunniest shallow flats on the oceanside edges and get there before the wind builds. Tarpon (62) may roll in the channels at first light — worth a look. Peak Windows: 6–9 AM for reef and sailfish, 9 AM–noon for kings and tuna, 4–6 PM for wahoo and the evening bite. Light winds, calm seas under 3 feet, and exceptional offshore clarity make tomorrow a day you don't want to miss. The conditions are lined up — go get 'em. 👉 Book your charter: buff.ly/LHZlnBL #MarathonFishing #FloridaKeysFishing #CaptainHooksMarina #OffshoreAdventure #ReefFishing #BackcountryBites #FishingForecast

Marathon Fishing Prediction January 26 Overall Fishing Grade: 79/100 (Good) – Favorable light winds, small seas, and mostly sunny skies create strong opportunities on the reefs and offshore, with decent tidal movement and solunar activity during peak daylight hours (6 AM to 6 PM EST); watch for a slight chance of isolated afternoon showers and the afternoon wind shift. Conditions support solid reef bottom fishing and controlled offshore trolling or live baiting, with calmer seas enhancing visibility and boat handling. Early morning and late afternoon bites align well with major solunar windows around sunrise and near sunset. Water temperatures remain suitable for most species, though cooler overnight trends may temper flats activity. Top species tomorrow include yellowtail snapper, grouper, king/Spanish mackerel, and sailfish, offering the best success rates in reef and offshore zones. Focus techniques on live baits for snappers during moving tides, trolling for pelagics in light winds, and targeting structure or current edges. Prioritize the 6 AM–6 PM window, especially early AM for reef action and late afternoon for offshore. Recent local charter captain reports (reviewed from Facebook, Instagram, and X posts) indicate consistent reef snapper and mackerel activity in the area over the past few days, with some mentions of solid Spanish mackerel catches.

Marathon Fishing Prediction: January 13, 2026 Overall Fishing Grade: 80/100 (Good) – A solid day ahead with favorable offshore and reef conditions driving strong opportunities for pelagics and bottom dwellers, though falling barometric pressure could slow bites mid-afternoon, and moderate east winds may create some chop—stick to morning hours for the best action. I even asked our model to take a second look based on today's wind! It's confident in it's prediction. Tomorrow looks promising for anglers in Marathon, with standout potential for sailfish, wahoo, and blackfin tuna leading the pack. The combination of steady water temperatures around 73°F holding firm without drastic shifts, along with good water clarity from minimal recent runoff, sets up well for visual feeders and those relying on structure. Tide movements will provide productive current during early morning and late afternoon windows, enhancing bait presentation in rips and eddies, particularly offshore where the Gulf Stream edge remains relevant. However, the falling barometric trend signals an approaching front that might dampen activity later in the day, so prioritize the 6 AM to noon slot when solunar periods align with sunrise for peak bites. In the backcountry, calmer pockets could yield decent flats action despite the wind, but overall sea state with 2-3 ft waves suggests small-craft caution beyond the reef. Recent reports boost confidence: Captains shared a thrilling sailfish release on January 11 via X, noting lively action along color changes; Sweet E'Nuf Fishing posted impressive yellowtail snapper hauls from January 12 on Instagram, with limits caught on live shrimp near patch reefs; and comments on local prediction posts highlight consistent blackfin tuna hits offshore over the weekend, crediting light tackle trolling. For tips, focus on live bait rigs for pelagics and bottom bouncing for snappers—adapt to the east wind by drifting lines naturally. #MarathonFishing #FloridaKeysFishing #FishingForecast #SaltwaterAngling

Marathon Fishing Prediction - January 09, 2026 Overall Fishing Grade: 73/100 (Fair-Good) – A promising setup with stable conditions favoring offshore and reef action during daylight hours, though average solunar activity and cooler water temperatures may temper backcountry bites; focus on early-morning and late-afternoon windows for the strongest opportunities. This is a pretty good drop (84 to 73) from what today was supposed to be. Check your conditions!! Tomorrow looks solid for offshore pursuits, with sailfish, wahoo, and blackfin tuna standing out as top targets—their success boosted by steady currents drawing in bait along edges and calm seas enabling longer runs without fatigue. Reefs should shine for yellowtail and mutton snapper, where excellent visibility and gentle flows make for productive drifts, especially in the early-morning hours post-sunrise or late afternoon before dusk. Backcountry options like permit and bonefish could pick up in warmer midday pockets, but overall cooler water temperatures are keeping metabolism lower, resulting in more deliberate presentations needed to trigger strikes. There hasn't been much reporting in Marathon about the recent catches so we are going to let that alone. Pro tips: Prioritize live bait for natural appeal in clear conditions, watch for bird activity signaling bait balls offshore, and adjust depths based on tidal shifts to stay in productive zones—always check for small-craft concerns if winds pick up later. Marathon Fishing Prediction: January 8, 2026 Overall Fishing Grade: 81/100 (Good) – A solid setup for action offshore and on the reefs, with calm conditions and active solunar periods boosting bites during daylight hours, though a potential shift in wind direction later could stir up seas; prioritize early morning and late afternoon for the best windows. Tomorrow promises rewarding opportunities, particularly for sailfish and wahoo offshore, where stable barometric pressure and consistent currents along deeper edges are drawing in bait schools and sparking aggressive feeds—especially around the 6 AM sunrise bite and the late-afternoon solunar peak before 6 PM. Reefs should deliver steady snaps for yellowtail and mutton snapper, aided by high water clarity that makes spotting and targeting over structure more effective, while the moderate tidal flow keeps things moving without overwhelming smaller setups. In the backcountry, permit and bonefish could respond well to the clearer, calmer waters on flats during warmer midday hours, but overall activity there is tempered by cooler water temperatures that slow metabolism and reduce aggressive strikes compared to warmer months. Recent reports from local charters add to the optimism: Captain John Callion released a lively sailfish offshore just yesterday, and crews with Main Attraction Charters have been landing multiple wahoo and blackfin tuna over the past couple of days, with comments on prediction posts noting impressive yellowtail limits on reefs and a standout mutton snapper near wrecks. Key tips: Focus on live bait or trolling for pelagics in 100-300ft depths with water around 72-75°F, drift over reefs in 40-80ft for snappers using light tackle to match the improved visibility, and sight-fish backcountry flats in 5-15ft with minimal disturbance given the stable but cooler conditions influencing fish positioning. Book with our captains now → buff.ly/c53dWZs. They are all great guys and they are great at what they do!
