Over the years the genre of sci-fi has felt like a competition of who could imagine the bleakest end which is why I think Project Hail Mary hits so hard, reminiscent of the wonder of the 60s while carrying the scale of a 90s blockbuster. The unknown isn’t fear, it can be awe!

The great coup of BLING RING is that it managed to capture a future moment in time (now??) while being both perfectly of its time at release in 2013 and perfectly distilling a daydream of 2008. I think this is where SC’s skimming across the gorgeous surface talent shines BEST
