Africa’s PH burden is shaped not only by heart disease, but also by infections that remain endemic across the continent. HIV. Tuberculosis. Schistosomiasis. The PH conversation in Africa has to include them. #PHinAfrica #PHNOBEJOKE

Pulmonary Hypertension is not just difficult to treat. In many parts of Africa, it is difficult to even diagnose. Limited access to echocardiography, specialists, and advanced testing means many patients are diagnosed late. #PHNoBeJoke #PHinAfrica

Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is not a single condition, but a group of five distinct conditions, each with different causes, mechanisms, and clinical profiles. Understanding these groups is essential for accurate diagnosis and tailored treatment.

One thing that stood out from Dr. Bonaventure Dzekem’s presentation: The PH burden in Africa cannot be fully understood through Western data alone. Africa needs stronger local registries, more African-led research, and better representation in clinical trials. #PHNoBeJoke #PHinAfrica

A striking point from today’s #PHinAfrica webinar: Pulmonary Hypertension affects an estimated 6–11% of adults living with sickle cell disease in Africa and is a major predictor of mortality. This is one reason breathlessness and fatigue in SCD patients should never be dismissed automatically. #PHNoBeJoke #PHinAfrica

They are connected conditions. The best response to heart failure is to see the whole picture and treat the whole person.

🫀Heart failure affects more than 60 million people worldwide. It is a serious, progressive condition where the heart is weaker or stiffer than normal, making it harder for blood to circulate properly. It is the leading cause of hospitalization for people aged 65+.
