@Nicolas_Finance Tu achètes 300 000 sur 25 ans. Quand tu revends, 10 ans après au moins 400 000. 25 après, c'est probablement 600 000. C'est peut être plus comme ca qu'il faut regarder....ca s'appelle la plus value. Ça a toujours marché !

I would be one of the people who had talks with @damnang2 about “Returning to Korea from Silicon Valley seems like the best choice right now.” I’m a Semiconductor Design Senior Director and Top Senior engineer in Silicon Valley. With nearly 28 years of experience as a semiconductor engineer in both Korea and the US, I’m currently living alone in Silicon Valley while my wife and grown children have already returned to Korea. So I’m seriously considering going back. If I negotiate at Samsung DS Memory Top Senior level — base $100k + Total Compensation around $1M — the compensation is already competitive with Big Tech senior packages in the US (performance bonus 7–9 billion KRW+ possible). It is competitive compensation even compared with Silicon Valley. But more important than money are these points: 1. Korea has 0% capital gains tax on domestic stocks (Samsung, SK Hynix) vs California short-term gains up to 54% (incl. NIIT) → real investment return almost 2x 2. As I enter my 50s and hospital visits increase, US medical costs vs Korea are not even comparable 3. Living expenses in Seoul are 40%+ cheaper than Silicon Valley 4. Above all, time with family - Not only wife and kids, but also both old parents. I’ve calculated the option of staying just couple of years and then returning, but right now, family reunion + health + comfortable life feel far more important. With the golden age of Korean semiconductors, the era when semiconductor engineers had to go to America just to make money is coming to an end. It feels proud to see the result of what our generation has built over decades. Hope this helps other colleagues too.
