today, I finally took it to a bike shop (for something else I didn't trust myself to fix) and the mechanic checked my wheel and said it was actually passable 🤯 I didn't tell him that I did it by ear

four years ago, I crashed my bike and knocked the front wheel out of true. I then bought a $5 spoke wrench and tried to fix it myself, by plucking the all spokes and tightening or loosening them to match pitch. I didn't get it quite right, but figured it was good enough to ride.
