@paulmbe67 @Jacob_The_Pilot The weather was appalling! Disappointing for the flight crews too! I think loads of vehicles got bogged down on the airfield later and had to be towed off! 90th Anniversary of the RAF as well! #2008 #riat

@carolsca @Jacob_The_Pilot Yeah, there was a German Navy helicopter crew in the lobby, still in flight suits, talking about how there was so much water it was coming 6" out of the drains! They'd been on Base putting gear back into their helicopter to protect it 🫣

@carolsca @Jacob_The_Pilot Same thing happened to me and my brother, we checked in Friday night, went the pictures in Gloucester and when we got back there were Spanish and German aircrew there saying it was cancelled. Got home to Merseyside 2am-ish and the hotel refunded half the money, which was nice 😆

@paulmbe67 @Jacob_The_Pilot It was gutting! Well at least you got your money back. We decided to stay the night, then stopped off in Cardiff. Earlier in the day we had watched the Queen inspect the troops at Fairford and it was chucking it down with rain then! #RIAT broc

@Nekrasova0128 It's for both. But William would have been at the football anyway! #worldcup I doubt he would have gone so soon after the King, in other circumstances.

@carolsca I apologise. I was mistaken. I thought they were going for US 250th celebrations(4th of July). If it’s just for World Cup, that’s fine.

William and Catherine are expected to go to Washington for July 4th celebrations. I also read a rumor they will travel to Australia in August. And now, their trip to India in November is confirmed 👌 🇺🇸🇦🇺🇮🇳🇬🇧

@storiesbyjemay I’m a big fan but honestly I don’t see the point of them going to the US so soon after Charles. It reeks of trying to garner positive PR after Charles’ disastrous parliament speech.

UK specialist paratroopers and military clinicians have carried out a daring parachute operation to deliver critical medical support to Tristan da Cunha – Britain’s most remote inhabited Overseas Territory – after a suspected case of Hantavirus was identified on the island.

Essential aid delivered from the sky. Members of the Parachute Regiment parachute on to the remote island of Tristan da Cunha. They mark a drop zone then call in an air drop of essential medical supplies from the RAF. 1000s of miles away in the middle of the Atlantic…only they could do it…to the Parachute Regiment we salute you! 🫡🫡

@Polakzagranica1 @MarioNawfal @grok Pembroke! Heading down to the training range at Castlemartin. There are regular exercises there and a major exercise is being held at the end of May. The tanks are also transported by train to Haverfordwest, then by road to Castlemartin.

🚨🇬🇧 HOLY SHIT! British roads just got taken over by absolute monsters! Police are shutting down traffic for a massive convoy of Challenger 2 tanks rolling through Wales on heavy transporters. These beasts are no joke, pure British Army firepower heading to training. Source: Cobra Emergency YT

This was the moment it truly hit home — the heartbreaking realisation that we had lost Queen Elizabeth II. As Her Majesty left Scotland for the final time, the majestic sound of bagpipes filled the air, playing her out on her last journey from the place she loved so deeply 🥺💔 #QueenElizabethll #QueenElizabeth100

@NewhouseFarm1 Yes it did look like it followed the A40 from Fishguard. I could originally see them above the A40 alongside the airfield, then moving across, so I had to dash to another window before they disappeared.

@carolsca it did and we watched it almost follow the A40 from Fishguard all the way down to Haverfordwest before turning East, the sound was amazing!

RIP Mary Rand, first British woman to win Olympic gold in track and field (the long jump, Tokyo, 1964). At the same Games, she won silver in the Pentathlon and bronze in the 4×100m relay. She kicked in the doors for generations of athletes who followed.

We are sad to report that Mary Rand, one of Great Britain's greatest athletes, has sadly passed away at the age of 86. With long jump gold at the 1964 Olympics, Rand became the first British woman to top the podium in track and field at the Games. She held the long jump world record of 6.76m – set at the Olympics – for four years (between 1964 and 1968). Rand also claimed three medals (4x100m & pentathlon being the others) at Tokyo 1964.

Sad news ... One of our greatest athletes, Mary Rand has died in the United States where she lived. She won the long jump gold medal at the Tokyo Olympic games of 1964. The won icon is overused, but Mary was an inspirational golden girl for a generation.
