Involving students in their assessment provides feedback that they can use to set learning goals. We need to incorporate more self-assessment and student-teacher interviews so that students know how they can improve. Tests don’t provide this feedback for our students. @bcedplan

Portfolio assessment, in place of standardized testing, allows teachers and students to receive a holistic view of their learning, that provides feedback and involves students in their learning experience to identify strengths and stretches, and set goals. @bcedplan

Equity requires a community to work together to provide opportunities for all students. Provide funding so that ALL schools have the opportunity to bring in guest professionals, or take field trips. Families and guardians shouldn't have to pay for student opportunities. #bced

Inequities in the school system contribute to the cyclical nature of poverty. Help support all students by ensuring they are ready to learn on a daily basis. Support programs that provide students with food throughout the day so they have the energy to try their best! #bced

Use the power of story to enhance students learning in math, but remember that certain protocols exist when telling stories. Invite a local First Nations storyteller in to your school. Remember, Learning is embedded in memory, history and story. #BCcurric #FPPL

Bring math out of the classroom! Include experiential learning in your local area to make a connection with the land you live with. Remember, Learning is experiential and relational. #BCcurric #FPPL

Working together on math problems allows students to offer their own knowledge and be responsible for each other’s learning. Remember, Learning ultimately supports the wellbeing of the self AND the community. #BCcurric #FPPL

Allow time for students to solve and reflect on difficult problems. Don’t be afraid to revisit them to provide a deeper understanding. Remember, Learning involves patience and time. #BCcurric #FPPL

Build on what students already know, allow them to explore their interests and encourage them to be curious in ALL subjects- yes, that means math too! Remember, learning requires the exploration of one's identity. #BCcurric

We’ve been watching the days get longer by plotting sunrise and sunset! The students were so excited to have our first 12 hour day of light on March 17th, after watching the time change jump us an hour. It’s cool visualizing our data. Now to watch the gap grow!

The last few weeks have been an emotional roller coaster. We need to regulate ourselves before we can regulate or co-regulate our students. I'm using rhythm to regulate (@BDPerry). Enter running and knitting! What are you doing to regulate? #SEL #emotionregulation #wellbeing

“When the intent is to enhance student learning, teachers use assessment for learning to uncover what students believe to be true and to learn more about the connections students are making, their prior knowledge, preconceptions, gaps, and learning styles” (WNCPCE, 2006, p. 30)
