I have created an additional small landing page for my new 2020 book where you can download the PDF (for FREE). If you are interested in the paperback version or like books, you can of course also buy the book, at least in Europe. jochenfromm.github.io/HiddenGenes

This year the 1st truly complete sequence of the human genome was published, almost 20 years after the Human Genome Project ended in 2003 with the publication of a 92% complete sequence of a human genome 🧬 And we start to see that there are hidden genes in other systems too...

Scientists in the Telomere-to-Telomere (#T2T) consortium have published the first complete, gapless human genome sequence. This can lead to a better understanding of our genomic variations and provide insight for missing heritability and human disease. genome.gov/T2T

There should be a German word for when you download research articles and store them in special folder on your computer even though you know you will never read them.

@philosophersmag @berfrois Good question. Just like kings are precursors of elected presidents (and justices), slaves are precursors of employees. Slavery is a form of proto-employment from a time when modern companies were not yet invented.

The Tripitaka Koreana - carved on 81258 woodblocks in the 13th century - is the most successful large data transfer over time yet achieved by humankind. 52 million characters of information, transmitted over nearly 8 centuries with zero data loss - an unequalled achievement. 1/

@curiouswavefn Authoritarian systems e.g. rely strongly on allegiance and loyalty. Maybe authoritarian Mafia states & organizations of the organized crime punish traitors so heavily by murder because betrayal is the opposite of loyalty, and they are built on two principles: loyalty and secrecy.

@curiouswavefn E.O.Wilson is not completely right when he says that's the way the cookie 🍪 crumbles because there are no larger entities that vie for our allegiance. There are powerful nations, large corporations and ancient religious organizations who all vie for our allegiance.

E. O. Wilson leaves us with this message for our continued existence on this tiny, lonely planet whose stewardship we have been thrust into. As enduring a message as any I can imagine.
