Great to welcome a new global partner to campus! 🎌🤘 Today, we hosted a signing ceremony with representatives from Nara Ikuei High School in Nara, Japan, marking the beginning of a new five-year partnership focused on expanding international opportunities for students. Through this agreement, Nara Ikuei will introduce its students to the opportunities available at UNK, giving them a pathway to study in a safe, affordable U.S. university while gaining valuable global experience. At the same time, the partnership helps the high school strengthen its international presence and connect students with new possibilities beyond Japan. We’re especially excited to build on a strong foundation – UNK is already home to about 100 Japanese students, and partnerships like this continue to grow that vibrant community. Thank you to our guests for visiting today. We’re proud to welcome you to campus and look forward to all that’s ahead! #PowerOfTheHerd

No one does Health Sciences better than @UNKearney!
University of Nebraska System@u_nebraska

Nebraska is facing a critical shortage of health care professionals in our state’s rural areas—but @unmc is working to turn the tide. Barbara Bartle, a university supporter and former chair of UNMC’s Board of Counselors, believes that UNMC’s presence in Greater Nebraska is key to that effort. Through the Douglas A. Kristensen Rural Health Education Complex on the @UNKearney campus, UNMC is working to train more medical professionals and grow a talent pipeline for Nebraska’s rural communities. Much of John Falconer’s work at UNK happens out of the spotlight. As senior advisor to the chancellor, he has more of a behind-the-scenes role, coordinating campus leadership, overseeing compliance and supporting university priorities. These responsibilities align with the work he’s done throughout his time at UNK. Since his return to campus in 1999, Falconer has helped shape several key programs and initiatives, from expanding undergraduate research opportunities and launching the New Frontiers faculty research magazine to growing the Honors Program and securing funding for projects like the UNK Planetarium. That work, he notes, has always been rooted in collaboration rather than recognition. “I’m not sure I’d call myself a leader,” Falconer said. “I’m a team member. I like working with people who are good at what they do, and my reward is being able to support the group’s success.” FULL STORY: unknews.unk.edu/2026/03/23/ask… #PowerOfTheHerd

UNK 💙 Greek Life At UNK, all Greek chapters are rooted in four shared pillars: Scholarship, Leadership, Service and Friendship. With 12 active chapters on campus, students find more than letters. They find a home away from home, a network of support, and a place to grow. Learn more about Fraternity & Sorority Life at UNK: unk.edu/offices/studen… #PowerOfTheHerd

.@UNKearney's impact goes far beyond the jobs it supports and degrees it grants. Kearney Mayor Jonathan Nikkila believes UNK is a key connector and builder for the Kearney Community—providing optimism for Kearney-area students, connections with local businesses and support for events in the community. Each spring, the distinctive calls of sandhill cranes echo across the Platte River Valley in central Nebraska. “The crane migration is like nothing else in the world,” said Amanda Hegg, senior conservation associate at the Iain Nicolson Audubon Center at Rowe Sanctuary. “It’s one of the only mass migrations you’ll see here in North America, and Nebraska is right at the heart of it.” While the migration is awe-inspiring, it also presents risks. Power lines that cross the Platte River corridor can be difficult for cranes to see, especially at night when they return to the water to roost.
