It's a double-sided compliment and you're only representing the positive side of it. It is saying, "you're the type of man I want to marry" like you said. But it's also saying, "you aren't like the hot, dumb guys I used to get railed by" Women would take it the same way. "You aren't like the hot bimbos I used to hook up with, you're a safer, smarter more long term choice."
