Young people in Derby have the talent. They just need the chance. I welcomed Labour’s new plan to boost apprenticeships and asked how SMEs will be supported too. This is a real step forward in creating more opportunities for local young people.

Pleased to visit Becket Primary School and see work now underway on the new building, thanks to this government’s School Rebuilding Programme. A major investment in local children and in the future of the school here in Derby.

Today @RachelReevesMP announced £10 million for Team Derby. Following the PM’s support, this is more backing for our plan to make sure major Govt investment in Derby brings more jobs, more opportunities for young people & visible change on our high streets and in our communities.

Next week is Sign Language Week. Derby has the largest deaf community of any local authority in the country, with a proud history stretching back 130 years to the founding of the Royal School for the Deaf. Wishing everyone who uses BSL a very happy Sign Language Week.

Spent some time at Derby Rugby Football Club at Haslams Lane chatting about how things are going and their plans for the future. With roots going back to 1891, DRFC is a real community hub powered by volunteers and proudly inclusive, living up to its #OneFamily spirit.

Chaddesden is set to benefit from £20 million through the Government’s Pride in Place programme, and I was proud to speak in Parliament about what this could mean for our community. This is a real chance for local people to shape local change.

Today the PM backed Team Derby. Labour’s £9 billion investment in Rolls-Royce submarines will create 1,000+ jobs and protect 4,000 more, keeping Britain safe & backing Derby jobs too. Team Derby is about turning that into real opportunities &visible improvements across our city.

Darley Abbey Mills is full of amazing businesses. I recently met with some of the owners about the impact of the bridge closure. Pleased they’re taking up the suggestion to set up a Darley Abbey Mills Business Forum. Look forward to working with them and supporting anyway I can.

Rail fares rose 60% between 2010 and 2024. Now, they’re frozen for the first time in 30 years by this Chancellor. And today, she also highlighted how defence & energy investment will support jobs in Derby, including at Rolls-Royce. Positive direction of travel for our city.

I brought the Derby and Sandiacre Canal Trust and @nationalgrid to discuss plans for a pontoon next to the Museum of Making. If an underground cable can be moved, the Trust’s @DerbyRiverboat could stop there - a brilliant idea and will help more people enjoy our River Derwent.

River walks are about making it easier to enjoy the places we already have. I’ve raised the River Derwent in Parliament and how a joined-up riverside route whether for walking or cycling or better accessing the river for fishing and paddling could benefit Derby and Derbyshire.

I went along to the last Farmers’ Market at the Market Hall and it was a great atmosphere. Busy with loads of brilliant stalls. It’s back this Sunday 22 Feb 10am–3pm. If you’re around, it’s well worth popping in and supporting our local traders.
