This seems like a good time to resurface this: The last letter Billy Wardlow sent me before his execution, thanking me for my reporting. I wish he could have seen the story about him & his D&D world get the recognition it did today from @PulitzerPrizes.

As the state is about to execute Billy Wardlow, I keep re-reading his last letter to me. "Thank you... for showing me that I have worth, too - no matter what others might say or think," he wrote. "You gave me back my humanity." He'll never actually get to read the story.
