@JasonMeisel Yes, which circles back to pinning services. The same is true for BitTorrent when seeders turn off.

@catsayshello "While IPFS guarantees that any content on the network is discoverable, it doesn't guarantee that any content is persistently available."

@JasonMeisel This explains it way better than I can in a tweet.
It’s essentially “BitTorrent with caching so lookups aren’t slow to endusers”
ipfs.io
English

@JasonMeisel No I’m not.
Arweave is a ponzi. Ipfs is just a persistent store.
English

@JasonMeisel On access you’re routed to the provider with closest hope to you.
Torrents are bad for non enterprise too because of afformentioned latency. I’d bet a locally hosted IPFS node would often outperform a site stored on BitTorrent
English

@JasonMeisel IPFS is way better because files are permanent, and mirrored over any provider hosting it.
So like, you have foo.html, it’s automatically mirrored from your local machine, google cloud, aws and wherever else you’re pinning.
It’s a layer of abstraction on storage.
English

@JasonMeisel But if we are talking decentralized, I’m not sure how you could beat the current structure without money changing hands.
English

@JasonMeisel I mean, a better solution is a socially owned centralized internet. That would always outperform something decentralized.
English

@JasonMeisel Thinking about it… this already exists. It’s ipfs + pinning services.
English

@JasonMeisel Like web 3 doesn’t *need* to be a ponzi.
Unfortunately given our current social/economic system though… hosts need to get paid.
Now I kinda want to just make TorrentUSD to own all the crypto nerds who think ponzis are cool.
English

@JasonMeisel Sort of, you would need to change some things about how BitTorrent works, but you could build solana using libtorrent.
An interesting question though: how to seeders pay the bills?
The *idea* is that gas fees go to paying for seed boxes. No reason gas couldn’t be USD tho.

@Allief0rnia Sorry to hear.
At least you didn’t do what my ex did and post cringe on Twitter/TikTok for *a year* about the breakup 🙃
English

@nebraskangooner If you really want the place, you can put a ridiculous escalation clause.
To get my place, I offered to beat any offer by $5000 up to around $300k over asking.
That also included inspection waivers, a long rent back, and fast closing and me eating basically all fees 😩

@criptera @samjstudios @finallyx @kvollstaedt @katecursed Oh yeah, new projects are great to support! I just tend to be cautious overall until things are more established.
I wouldn’t put serious money in there until it got a little more stable (personally).
English

@catsayshello @samjstudios @finallyx @kvollstaedt @katecursed Project is not even a week old, that is just the one I am using because I know the team and they have been very responsive but polygon has many other options too.
Just saying that Polygon > BSC.
You can see a full list of all polygon farms here: vfat.tools/polygon/
