Do you have a smaller regional public with declining enrollment and a student-to-instructor ratio of less than 20 in your area? Then this might be coming your way, too.

WIU has 7,500 students, with 285 tenured and 81 tenure-track faculty (plus about 80 instructors). It's not a great situation, but it's clear to see that the university is going after one of its largest salary line items. tspr.org/tspr-local-new…

@chrisbriem It’s probably going up quite a bit everywhere. A lot of that General Revenue Sharing funded infrastructure is past due replacing and the money has to come from somewhere. Never mind the cost of treating the water.

@cbgoodman Oh. It’s a local comment. I suspect our (city of Pittsburgh, actually just part of the city) water rates have gone up a lot more than by $30/month in recent years.

Look at some of these reports from the @govfinanceUIC. They clearly outline that rate increases (and therefore bill increases) tend to be quite large. And that's mostly among public providers. gfrc.uic.edu/our-work/featu…

Take Willowbrook's increase in 2023. Depending on your water usage, say 13k gallons (a lot, but not unreasonable if you water your yard), you can easily get to a $ 30-a-month increase. willowbrookil.org/371/2023-Water…

This is unequivocally a good thing. Regardless of which one, local elected office is a considerable time commitment, and we should adequately compensate people to do it. Also, it allows more people, some of whom don't run because of financial concerns, to run for office.
