This was the first book published by the Centre for Bhutan & GNH Studies after it was established on 11 November 1998. By 2018 we published 140 books which are available for free download at bhutanstudies.org.bt

In “The Legal Code of Bhutan 1729” Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal who founded Bhutan as a state said: “If the government cannot create happiness to the people there is no purpose for the government to exist”.

Victor Hugo wrote “No army can stop an idea whose time has come”. GNH has reached Americas.

GNH INDEX is constructed using 33 indicators. Bhutan’s GNH Index in 2015 was 0.756, up from 0.743 in 2010.

GNH is measured based on what is called nine domains.
