@cbyeh What we need is a branch caching device that connects to multiple cloud service providers via APIs to cache the files that were recently used and cares for them when updates in the cloud service get available. If we achieve a global locking additionally - must see. #Kickstarter?
English

@bgewehr Ok - I get it. The only way to achieve that is with a machine running in a data center with extremely close physical proximity to the user. I don’t think we get there with even good edge compute and storage. Pretty straightforward otherwise, just probably not a focus for Box.
English

@cbyeh No, the opposite is the request. Global file locking, combined with near real-time sync. This gives a company a file server experience like working on one common file server. Remote access is no option, apps need 1ms latency.
English

@bgewehr Not sure why an appliance per se would solve this issue. Is the core of the question whether an individual file can be worked on simultaneously by many people? If that’s the case, then only the application owner (e.g., AutoDesk, Adobe, Microsoft) can drive at that level.
English

@bgewehr Got it. I think from a cloud tech point of view we want to solve both the collaboration and storage growth problems. But bandwidth sometimes lags and we don’t do well at the edges. Desktop sync conflicts unfortunately just result in multiple versions - tough problem I know.
English

@cbyeh Well, as civil engineers, we face three major problems: massive file collaboration in the teams of one branch, in between branches and with customers and partners. And on top of that, we see exponential storage demand. A desktop sync will not avoid file version conflicts, right?

@justbsavage just saw Lauren on @KTVU - keep up the good fight. Amazon isn’t the end-all-be-all. All the best to you guys.
