A pure scorer like KM is generally easier to replace then a player like Caitlin or AB and a competent fo should be able to do that easily but I have zero faith in Amber.

@steve_sherwood Yes, 100% this As far as Steph goes, I think there is a lot of mutual respect there and over the season we have seen a meeting in the middle between the way Caitlin and Steph want to do things Once that equilibrium is found, watch out. We're getting there

@cc22report She may or may not like Steph's philosophy. I suspect it's somewhere in between on that, but I think she LOVES playing with both AB and Kelsey.

This is gonna be a 20 point (!) Fever Dub Lots to say about this game on both sides First the Fever stuff Everything in the world was stacked up for Indy to lose this game Back half of a b2b First game very emotionally, physically, mentally exhausting NYL incredibly well rested having missed their previous game due to travel stuff Caitlin and AB both on minutes restrictions All that pointed to a Fever L pretty hard - and the first half (first quarter especially) it looked like that was exactly what was gonna happen NYL hit absolutely everything from 3 Refs were absolutely ON ONE First half very poor effort process wise on both ends from the Fever Just a bad effort all round But somehow they stuck around and in the second half they fixed literally everything 30-12 3rd quarter! Defensively stout the whole way thru until the game was pretty much salted Kelsey put in 33pts - if she doesn't win POTM for July I will be SHOCKED. She could stop today and win that award. Caitlin and AB solid! But this was Kelsey's night as much as last night was Caitlin's Everyone else solid as well Just cannot say enough about the mental toughness of this team to come out after stinking out the joint in the 1st half to say nothing of that roller coaster of a game last night and just absolutely HAMMER New York Great work ladies Now go take an ice bath or something. You have earned it

It has taken a while to come online And in fact is still not fully online yet! But despite all criticisms - which are legitimate! This offense is on a trajectory to be the best offense in the history of the WNBA By a lot

@steve_sherwood Stewie is borderline top 5, certainly top 10, but trending down and unable to do it all every night anymore which is what they need out of her. JJ on a max is a disaster

@cc22report I think this is generally true, but I still think Stewie is a top 5 player, she just can't do it all.

@steve_sherwood I think given the Big 3 they have as good a shot as anyone Leaving Indy would necessarily mean leaving AB and Kelsey behind and I don't want that.

@cc22report I don't want to see 30 and 10 all the time on a .500 team. I'll take 22 and 8 and playing for championships. Jury is out if Indy can be that but I think it could be.

@cc22report Do people think Roberts is a good coach in L.A. or just that she'll be gone? I don't see her as any sort of attractive option.

One final thing to say This is the vaunted FO many people practically BEGGED to send Caitlin to for years I watched several people yell, scream, beg, plead, to see Caitlin in a NYL uniform, just as I am now seeing people yell, scream, beg, plead, to see Caitlin in a LA uniform No! Not only will it never happen in a million years, YOU DON'T WANT THAT because while this FO may have made some questionable decisions, NO TEAM is immune from bad decisions and I'd say this NYL team has screwed itself FAR more than Indy ever possibly could She is here to stay and that is a good thing

Ok now let's talk about the NYL Because I think this is pretty much the end of the line for them - not just for this year but for the foreseeable future You've got all the circumstances I just talked about above as to why this should have been a NYL win. Fate basically gift wrapped you this game and not only did you lose you got absolutely humiliated Fever's 2nd squad spent a ton of time out there and played your starters to even and that's being generous You had no answer for Kelsey, and no answer for Caitlin or AB either when they were in, not really Yeah you had Fiebich and Satou out but really when is Satou coming back? And Fiebich is not gonna fix these issues The issue at core is that your core 3 are simply not good enough anymore - they are good but not close to what they were and not good enough to consistently carry your squad and certainly not against championship level teams which Indy is on the fringes of being And here is the real problem - you are stuck with your core 3 on max or supermax deals for a further three years. They are only going to get older and worse And you called in every favor you had and European player you had stashed to come create this so called superteam, they are all on 1 year deals and you have no control of them after this year Johannes will not be back. Han Xu will not be back. Fiebich will not be back. Sabally may be cooked. Astier will not be back. So now you've got an ancient core and zero other good players under control beyond this year And this again, I cannot emphasize this enough, from a team that just lost by 20 to the Fever B Squad They are COOKED

Refs are being ridiculous on both ends Like absolutely utterly ridiculous But equal opportunity ridiculous Not sure this is what they meant when they asked for consistency

End 3rd It turns out NYL did fuck up by letting us stay in it Nothing huge changed, we just started playing a little better on both ends and they stopped canning every 3 in the universe It all adds up to the Fever outscoring NYL by 18 in the quarter and going from down 4 to up 14 Neat! Now don't screw it up

Caitlin crosses half court and Astier stumbles leaving Caitlin an AIRPORT RUNWAY RIGHT TO THE HOOP Instantly every defender collapses into the paint to try and stop her Caitlin finds MHA on the wing for a 3 which is nothing but net, no one in the same hemisphere as her And suddenly the Fever lead!

Refs stop the game for a possible hostile act by AB when JJ tangles her arms up after a free throw and falls down No upgrade obviously Other end of the court Stewie blocks a CC layup and gets her in the eye, absolutely unintentional but the definition of a flagrant 1 Play on

Halftime Fever down 4 Process wise, that was as poor an effort I've seen from the Fever since... I don't know. Portland 2? Probably that Just bad decision making from everyone and really we shouldn't be that surprised given the mental and emotional drain from the game last night - to say nothing of the physical drain! I won't say this was a scheduled loss but it is as close to one as you can get without it being such However! NYL may have screwed up big time by letting us hang around Despite everything we are down only 4 and Caitlin and AB have yet to really wake up If we can get it together this 2nd half we might just fuck around and win this thing Fingers crossed!

The back to back probably has a lot to do with it but we just look tired right now and not focused at all And yet we are within 7? Ok

End 1st NYL up 28-22 Frankly given that insane ambush from 3 by NYL I’m surprised Indy was able to keep it within 6 They’re not gonna be able to keep that insane rate up I hope
