We are a non-Christian nation with a Christian form of government - and so they are in conflict with each other. The greatest hope of reviving this country is to return to the Christian roots of our nation's founding.

@ewarren Lies. The SAVE act gives Americans a stronger voice as it should be bc this is the Americans' nation.

Republicans in Congress know they’re in deep trouble for the midterms unless they can rig the rules. Donald Trump even said that passing the “SAVE” Act will “guarantee the midterms.” Don’t be fooled: the “SAVE” Act is their way to keep American citizens from voting.

@blankspeaker X got rid of the "Sent from iPhone 8" stuff but still open their betas on iOS first and always. I would have thought they'd choose to be contrarian and release and beta test Android first.

@allenholub This is based. Programming ethics should be considered in anything a programmer gets involved for the programmer to be considered an ethical person.

This post violates the "shut up and just talk about programming" pseudo-rule that many seem to think I should follow, so don't read it if that bothers you 😄. Trump and his sycophants have just declared Anthropic a national security risk because Anthropic refused to allow the Pentagon to waive all ethical concerns in its contracts. [t.ly/UyIwU] Kudos to Anthropic. AI without ethics leads to nothing but horror. The Pentagon wanted, among other things, to use the system for mass blanket surveillance of US citizens, create autonomous deadly weapons, and run war scenarios, even though 95% of AI-generated scenarios end in nuclear war [t.ly/inf3a]. Given Trump's threats that "WE WILL HIT [Iran] WITH A FORCE THAT HAS NEVER BEEN SEEN BEFORE!" [sic], this is terrifying. The US bombed a girl's elementary school yesterday. I doubt that Iran will sit back and passively accept the US and Israeli militaries' murdering children. The Gazans were unable to strike back. Iran is not. OpenAI, which has no ethics, has happily volunteered to service every one of these demands. Lucrum super omnia. That means that of the above _will_ happen, just not with Claude. We should all be worried about that. Frankly, boycotting OpenAI is a start, but if you work for OpenAI, you are part of the problem. Some Nuremberg-like "I'm just an engineer following orders" defence is ethically bankrupt unless you actually endorse the behavior your work enables. To my mind, everybody who works for OpenAI is complicit. Sorry. People with AI skills at that level are not the ones having a hard time finding jobs.

An economy based on generosity instead of monetary transactions eliminates entitlements for demanding more unnecessarily, and for litigation when the buyer does not pay the maker for what they received. Why? Because there is no sale. The recipient exchanges nothing to recieve the gift (otherwise it wouldn't be a gift). There is then only the enjoyment of what someone else decided to do and the new possibilities that thing allows to happen. It is more personal and less transactional. This is the essence of open-source development. What's built is a gift, not an obligation to end users. It invites gratitude instead of indebtedness and vengeance for repayment. It's a wholesome system when the premise is accepted on both sides. Today, creating the best future is most possible right now in areas where there is no opportunity for financial repayment, yet God stands to reward people for the good works that they do specifically when they do not receive a reward for it on earth (and human praise is considered by God as a reward on earth). Christians have a unique position in the marketplace via this economic lense to transform this world, particularly in developing and building new technology systems, the Logos of God intrisically included in systems that bring kingdom value to earth in ways yet to be seen. Not "can" you build it, no - WHAT will you build? What should be built, and WHY? Heb. 12:1-3, Matt. 6 (several verses), Matt. 5:12, Acts 20:35

Peterson's concept of The Meaningful Burden helped me see why open source is such a rewarding work. Even as we grimace from the load and the ungrateful. Don't wish for the responsibility to be lighter, strive to become stronger. world.hey.com/dhh/the-respon…

@unclebobmartin Seems to be the way. We have to yield our requirement of code access and interferance and let AI blossom - if it truly can, which remains to be seen in software development.

If you read “We, Programmers” you will learn that the word “code” referred to the numbers that Grace Hopper, and her team who programmed the Harvard Mark 1, wrote on paper representing the positions of the holes that were then punched on the 24 bit wide paper tape that drove that machine. Hopper’s goal, in the following years, was to get away from code and to use more natural languages. The fact that 80 years later we still call our programs “code” is a reflection of the failure of her goal. For eighty years we have, step by step, elevated code from hole positions, to assembler, to Fortran, to C, to Java, to JavaScript and Python, etc. But at each step up that abstraction ladder we have continued to call it code. If AI is the next step up that ladder, if Claude is equivalent to a compiler translating a higher level code into a lower level code, then the productivity gains will be nominal, and we will still be writing code. But if AI programming is what Hopper had envisioned, if our prompts are not code, but are instead negotiations, then the productivity gains will be enormous — but only if we abandon code entirely. Because, as Hopper understood, code is the limiting factor in programming.

@avrldotdev @unclebobmartin It is more accurate to call AI probablistic, though all tech is of the same nature: AI is deterministic but it uses determinism to generate a response that is not in its nature very deterministic - but the algebra used is deterministic.

@unclebobmartin Sir can we even call AI something in that direction? I mean since AI is non-deterministic in all the ways, can we even have it in the ladder as a concrete step? I'm really thinking adding this in the ladder can collapse the whole jenga tower, coz there is sustainability here

My point wasn't so much about books but cultural impact. I cited C.S. Lewis, who said something to the effect of, "We don't need more Christian books; we need more good books written by Christians."

@benjamingoos @SpencerAlthouse Not sure what to say about a guy (Bad Bunny) who delights in burning the American flag on stage at his concerts and then being promoted by what is supposed to be the most pro-America sports league. The NFL has an agenda and their propaganda makes it apparent.

@SpencerAlthouse He used his platform to take the higher ground. I don’t really listen to his music but seeing how he navigated this performance tells me either he’s got a hell of an agent or he’s a stand up dude who gets it. Mad respect either way. Great show.

@SpencerAlthouse "America" the nation is way different than "America" the 2 continents. When Americans refer to "America" they're talking about the nation. The fact that BB has tons of other nation's flags behind him means that just being together doesn't actually makes us one nation.

God doesn't owe me anything, and God's love is all I need. Thank God that He loves us so generously. If only I would stop falling short of mimicking the example of perfect love found in Jesus. I wish I could stop falling short. There's no way I could ever deserve God's love. He is infinitely powerful and mighty and just. There's only one adequate response in my view, and because of this I am deeply grateful even for the life I have and the opportunity to experience the glory of God through mere consciousness in this world that He created - what a gift! Who am I, with all my limitations, to think that I could know better than the Source of all that is good? In light of this, I am humbled, and if I am wise I should defer to God's judgement over mine. (God knows what is best. The one who asks receives.) What reason could there be for an infinitely powerful God *wanting* to have a PERSONAL relationship with anything He creates? Yet our form resembles His form, and He wanted that special commonality from the start of our part in His story. I hope to not forget how special that decision of His still is. This year I want more, and what I am asking from God this year specifically is the spiritual wisdom that is found in Him alone. I felt lead to share this. I feel it in me that this is going to be a great year. God's not done yet. ---- Maybe for you God is just beginning. If you don't know Jesus personally as the One who is able to save you from your mess, which is sin, and who jealously longs for you to become His own adopted child, I invite you to trust Him in what He has said (which is recorded in the Bible) and continues to say through his faithful believers. There is nothing worth rejoicing about more in heaven or on earth than a new soul being saved by Christ and inheriting the Holy Spirit as their guarantee of the inheritance to come, which is eternal life in pure love. Jesus is pure love. Turn to Him and listen to Him. He will not lead you astray. This is not to say that everything will suddenly be easy, but the mlst important change has come: You will then become a New Creation through Jesus. New - not a better version of yourself - a completely new person, dead to your old ways of living. A good place to start learning more is the Gospel of John. I hope the best for you just as God does. If there's anything I can do for you please don't fear in reaching out for support. (God knows we all need a little help.)
